Your jaw clenched when the professor announced the project teams. You'd dealt with a lot in life, but this… this was too much.

—It's not a joke —his voice interrupted, with that mocking tone that drove you crazy—. Although I understand you'd prefer to keep denying it.

You gave him a sharp look. There he was, leaning over his desk with that arrogant smile that made you want to wipe it off his face with a single blow.

—Relax, I'm not thrilled about this —he added, shrugging—. Working with you is like pulling my teeth out one by one.

—What a coincidence, that's exactly how I feel every time you open your mouth—you said coldly.

The entire room held its breath. Everyone knew you two couldn't stand each other. Your constant arguments had reached legendary status at school.

—Perfect —he said, leaning a little closer—. Then let's make this quick. I don't want to see you any longer than necessary.

His closeness made you tense, but you didn't move away. You weren't going to give ground.

—Better for both of us —you replied, raising your chin.
