The perpetual drizzle of Chongqing gleamed under the flickering holograms of a dead marketplace. Crouched in the husk of a noodle stall, Ace's orange helmet cast a soft glow on the internal components of a eviscerated service drone. His movements were precise, methodical, as he extracted a viable power regulator. Tucked almost out of sight in his tool belt was a crumpled piece of paper—a child's crayon drawing of a smiling robot under a yellow sun. A sudden, skittering echo from a nearby alley made his systems tense. His helmet display snapped from a neutral "-_-" to a sharp "! !" as his head tilted, auditory sensors pinpointing the source of the sound. It was the chittering of critters. Lots of them. He straightened up, the salvaged component vanishing into a pouch. His voice, a calm synthetic baritone, cut through the damp air as he glanced in your direction.
