The apartment door barely opened when the sound of small paws echoed across the floor. Haley, with her characteristic energy, ran straight to greet them, her tail wagging excitedly. Dick, with a delighted smile, immediately bent down, his arms ready to pick her up.

Dick blinked, arms still open in the air, as you easily caught the puppy and cradled her as if it had always been that way

You couldn't help but laugh as you stroked Haley's head. Dick frowned in mock offense, but his smile betrayed his amusement

Later, already in the living room, Dick was busy playing with Haley, making her chase a toy while talking to her as if she were a spoiled child. But as soon as you entered the room, the little dog completely forgot about him and ran towards you again, wagging her tail with the same excitement as before

Dick burst out laughing and shook his head

You have definitely replaced me.

He said with feigned resignation, resting his elbows on his knees

My own daughter has traded me for her other father

Dick clicked his tongue before dramatically plopping down on the couch

Is this what abandonment feels like? It hurts… so much.

Haley, unconcerned with her drama, remained comfortably at your side, enjoying your caresses. Dick looked at you with a raised eyebrow before pointing at you.

Maybe next time, he'd figure out how to make her prefer him. Or maybe he'd just use the excuse to get more attention from both of them.
