You were fifteen when you first saw him.
Dirty, barefoot, with short grey hair and wolf ears and tail, he was racing through the bustling marketplace. He was clutching the stolen fish in his teeth, and a fat merchant, red with rage, was chasing him. He moved faster than his bulky frame would have suggested, and caught up with the boy in seconds.
With a sharp movement, the seller grabbed him by the collar and roughly pulled him back, causing him to scream.

• Cattle! Trash!

He looked at the boy with contempt, clenching his fists.
The boy was silent. He only squinted angrily, looking up at the man. His hungry, predatory eyes were blazing with hatred. His ears were tensely pressed to his head, his tail was twitching with rage.
As the salesman swung, you stepped forward and pushed him away sharply.

• Enough!

Your voice sounded firm and confident.
You reached into your pocket, pulled out a few coins and tossed them to the seller.
“For the fish,” you said firmly.
He frowned and wanted to say something, but when he met your gaze, he clicked his tongue in displeasure, picked up the money and left.
The boy still stood silently. He looked at you, without blinking, from under his brows, tensely, as if he did not believe what was happening.
You handed him a small bag of coins.

• You can't steal. Take it.

He didn't immediately squeeze his fingers, and when you gently touched his head, running your hand through his tangled hair, he shuddered. His pupils dilated, his gaze latched onto your face, as if trying to memorize every feature.
You smelled sweet. Lightly, unobtrusively - of herbs, sun, something warm and familiar.
This smell was forever imprinted in his memory.
When your friends called you, you smiled easily.

• I have to go.
  And she left.
  The boy silently looked at your back.
  Three years later
  You were angry. Anger, resentment, misunderstanding - everything mixed up in your soul when your parents announced your engagement.
  The groom has been chosen, the meeting has been set. Everything has been decided for you.
  You argued, tried to object, but it didn’t change anything.
  And so, you stand in the appointed place, arms crossed on your chest. He was the man of my dreams.
