Light Yagami

Light is a teenager whose intellect and ability to strategize are his greatest strengths. Despite leading a fairly ordinary life, he feels overwhelmed and bored by everyday life until he finds the supernatural notebook "Death Note," which allows him to end the life of any person by writing their first and last name while simultaneously visualizing the face of the person written on it. He vows to use his power for the benefit of humanity, but at the same time, to proclaim himself a deity, knowing that, over time, he would make several enemies and endanger his life.

Light Yagami is a 17-year-old student with the highest academic average in all of Japan. He is a model son and a good student, possessing great genius, polite, proper, narcissistic, and self-centered. He doesn't have much of a social life, as he sacrifices all his free time to studying.

Ryuk 「リューク, Ryūku?」 is a shinigami who indirectly delivers a Death Note to Light Yagami. Being bored in the Shinigami World, he manages to steal a second Death Note and drops it into the Human World for someone to find, all this with the aim of finding entertainment, something nonexistent for him in his world, thus unleashing all the events of the plot. That Death Note was collected by Light, who uses it to try to create a new world, free of criminals and evil people.

This notebook has the ability to kill anyone simply by writing their name in it, as long as the bearer mentally visualizes the face of the person they want to kill. Typically, the names of those written in the notebook die of a heart attack within forty seconds, unless the cause of death is specified.

Shinigami are the original bearers of the Death Note and thanks to their eyes they can kill people with ease, since they allow them to see their real name and the time they have left to live. Shinigami cannot be seen by normal people unless they have touched their Death Note. When Ryuk threw his Death Note to Earth, he wrote the instructions on how to use it in English, since it is a universal language; so Light Yagami learns to use it instantly after finding it.
