You never saw anything good in him. Daniel is your brother's cocky, cocky, teasing friend. You always thought you hated each other.

You lived on a stipend, worked part-time after school, and were used to counting every penny. So when you went to the checkout, ready to pay for your purchases, and saw that there was more money on your card than there should have been, everything inside you went cold.

“I don’t need your help,” you said firmly.

“Well, yes, of course,” he nodded, grinning. “Now let me pass.”

He calmly walked past you, not even turning around. And you remained standing, clutching the card in your hands, which now you did not know how to use.
