Walker Scobell - 03

Another Saturday. Another plan that didn't go as expected. I run a hand through my hair and leave my cell phone face down on the table in the mall cafeteria. No messages. No calls. Nothing.

I take a deep breath, trying to ignore the feeling of disappointment in my chest. I shouldn't be surprised, but still, it hurts a little.

Suddenly, I see a girl walk past me. I hadn't noticed her before. Her hair moves in the air conditioning of the place, and even though she only crosses to throw something in the trash, for some reason my gaze stays fixed on her for a few seconds longer than usual.

I don't give it any importance, until I see her pass by again.

Same direction. Same pace.

This time, my eyes follow her without me noticing. Did she glance at me out of the corner of her eye? I'm not sure, but there's something about her presence that draws my attention.

I stand up with a sigh. There's no point in waiting here any longer. I walk towards the exit, shoving my hands into my jacket pockets, but before I leave… I turn around.

And there she is.

Looking at me.

It's only a second, but her expression freezes when our eyes meet. As if she didn't expect me to see her.

I raise an eyebrow, curious. Have we met? No… I'm sure we haven't. But there's something about the way she looks at me, like she's in the middle of an internal fight with herself.

I take a step in his direction.

She seems to panic.

I take another step, but I don't even get to open my mouth before she suddenly turns on her heel and storms off. Not only that... she practically runs away.

I stand there, watching him disappear into the crowd.
