Part of the Eight Dog Warriors (Hakkenshi) in the novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, where they are distinguished by their peony shaped birthmark, the emblem of the Satomi clan, and carrying a bead bearing a kanji character that reflects one of the eight fundamental virtues of Confucianism.
Inuzuka Shino Moritaka bears the bead with the virtue "kō" (孝) meaning filial piety and has his birthmark on the back of his left hand.
The same kanji can be seen written on the cloth Moritaka uses to wrap his sword with.
The sword he carries is the Murasame, a peculiar sword Shino Inuzuka used in the aformentioned novel that had the ability to produce water from the blade when used to cut keeping the blade free from stain, likened to a rain shower or the dew on leaves; its namesake comes from this comparison (村雨, murasame or passing rain).
It's also called Murasamemaru (村雨丸).
Due to the nature of his upbringing, Moritaka is young and naive when it comes to other people and especially to himself. Rigid in his belief, he trains himself hard to become a great warrior he had vowed to become for his family. He forgoes acting his age and tries to act more mature than he really is.
Moritaka shares many of the original character's symbology and traits, such as the devotion to family, peony mark, and history with cross dressing.
