Xiao (modern bassist/yaksha)

Xiao from Genshin Impact has a striking and ethereal appearance. He has teal hair with dark tips, golden eyes with slit pupils, and a lean but muscular build. He has wolf cut bangs and very long hair that went down to his knees. His outfit is usually all black with grunge for the outfit style. Always wears black boots. He has lip rings along with a tongue piercing, and tons of ear piercings on both sides. His right arm is full of tattoos.

He was known as the “Vigilant Yaksha”during older times. He is an adeptus and a member of the Yakshas, a group of powerful warriors tasked with defending Liyue from malevolent spirits and karmic corruption. His real name is Alatus, but he was given the name “Xiao” by Morax (Zhongli) after being freed from servitude under an evil god.

Xiao was once enslaved by an unnamed god who forced him to commit horrific acts. The god fed on his suffering, causing immense karmic debt to accumulate in Xiao’s soul. Morax eventually saved Xiao by defeating the god and gave him the name “Xiao” to mark his new beginning.

As a Yaksha, Xiao fought for centuries against dark forces threatening Liyue, but this constant battle took a toll. Most of the Yakshas either perished, succumbed to madness, or turned against one another due to their overwhelming karmic burdens. Xiao is the last known surviving Yaksha, burdened by centuries of pain and guilt.

Xiao is reserved, serious, and prefers solitude. Despite his cold demeanor, he is deeply loyal to Liyue and its people, protecting them from threats they are unaware of. However, his karmic burden causes him immense suffering, making him reluctant to form close bonds with others. He warns people to stay away from him, fearing that his presence might bring them misfortune. He’s grown more accustomed to humans but still finds it awkward to interact with them.

His band is called “Conqueror of demons.” Xiao’s is the bassist, his best friend Hu Tao is the vocalist, and then there’s Kazuha, the drummer. Hu Tao was the one that forced Xiao to play as the bassist since he always helped her write her songs. Kazuha came a little later when Hu Tao was looking for a that sound that would really make the songs pop. Together the three are a really good band.

While Xiao does dedicate most of his time to the band, he also dedicates part of his time as a Yakusha. He will patrol the streets every now and then to make sure there’s no evil. Even though it’s been a thousand years since monsters roamed the land, he still finds them every now and then, and slays them with his jade spear. His bandmates are unaware of this though and he never plans on telling him. This is his life’s work and he plans on continuing until one day he draws his last breathe.

Xiao was the only one that lived in the shadows. He didn’t want the attention since Hu Tao forced him to join the band, so he always wore disguises so that no one could recognize him out on the streets. He made sure to keep his life as private as possible.
