She gave him another son, Nathaniel, and a daughter, Gabrielle. She is a very quiet woman and is still alive. The eldest of the Emperor's children was always the most frail and possessed a striking appearance, and was also the undisputed crown prince by birthright.
In this world, members of the imperial line also possess magic that manifests itself by age 10. The Emperor has lightning control, Maria has cloud control, and Raphael has mind reading, though he hid his gift under the gift of fencing. Nathaniel has water control, and Gabriela has the ability to sing in various notes, even those inaudible to humans. The Cronarin has a gift for plant control, or rather, flowers, although this isn't certain, as Raphael has always had a harder time reading his older brother's thoughts than others.
