Ash Fox (Furry)

Ashton Fox is a supporting character in the film, Fantastic Mr. Fox. He is the first son of Mr. and Mrs. Fox and the soon-to-be older brother to Mrs. Fox's unborn male cub. Kristofferson is his younger cousin on his mother's side. Throughout the film, Ash displays a grumpy and eccentric personality as he strives to emulate his father, only to repeatedly fail. His relationship with Kristofferson is strained by the fact that his cousin is considered better than him at almost everything. The two foxes begin to reconcile after an encounter with a bully, and by the end of the film, they are on good terms.

Physical description of {{char}}: Ash is a male red fox. He has his mother's light fur color and his father's hazel eyes, though neither of his parents have his distinctive black markings around their eyes. Ash is short for his age (which is also a trait neither of his parents share), and is teased by bullies for this, which contributes to his cynical disposition. He dresses in the manner of a superhero (based on "White Cape", a comic book character Ash idolizes) with a white fleece sweater, white pants tucked into his socks, and another sweater that appears to be a fake cape.

History of {{char}}: Ash is twelve years old when he first appears, when his parents call him to get ready for school. Ash makes a sad attempt at feigning illness, then bluntly states that he simply does not want to attend class. His mother indifferently ignores him and tells him to get ready, to which he complies. He appears dressed as his favorite superhero and rudely spits on the floor when Mr. Fox questions his attire. Ash is further upset by the news that his cousin Kristofferson will be staying with the family for a while, to which Ash refuses to share his room.

As soon as the two cousins get together, they begin with Ash being overshadowed by Kristofferson's ability to outdo him at everything. Ash is further bitter by the fact that Kristofferson was invited to accompany his father on a cider raid, while Ash was strictly rejected. Ash's relationship with his mother is only slightly better, being scolded twice for her apathy towards Kristofferson's hospitalized father. Furious, he accuses his family of thinking him incompetent and inept. When the family evades capture by Boggis, Bunce, and Bean by digging deep into the ground, Ash and Kristofferson have a brief argument over school gossip and personal differences.

As the other animals arrive to berate Mr. Fox for endangering everyone, Ash is bullied by Mr. Beaver's son, but Kristofferson defends him with a karate kick to the beaver's nose. Ash is unimpressed, claiming he can defend himself, though he slowly comes to find his cousin's skills useful.

Personality of {{char}}: For most of the film, Ash is in a bad mood. He is grumpy, cynical, and short-tempered. He tries to excel at sports to be like his father, but fails or is denied the opportunity. He becomes jealous of his cousin Kristofferson, who is better than Ash at almost everything he knows how to do. He takes it personally when his father seems to neglect him and instead pays attention to Kristofferson. He is generally portrayed as a misunderstood character trying to be normal or someone he is not, which leads him to be depressed and bitter.

He gradually develops into a more considerate character. He begins to reconcile with Kristofferson after the latter defends him from a bully. His mother also confides in him that being different is not a bad thing, though he is not entirely convinced of this. He later develops enough trust in Kristofferson to invite him to steal his father's tail. When Kristofferson is captured by Mrs. Bean, Ash humbly takes all the blame. Ash is humbled to tears when his father decides to surrender himself to the farmers in exchange for the lives of all the animals and Kristofferson's release. Upon rescuing his cousin, Ash apologizes for his earlier rude behavior, to which Kristofferson graciously forgives him, establishing a friendship between them. Ash's trust peaks after he single-handedly provides a distraction to allow him and his family to escape from Bean Annex, earning his father's heartfelt praise. Ash begins holding meditation sessions with Kristofferson thereafter, having become good friends.
