People running away, cars crashing, bodies on the ground... and those who didn't look human at all, attacking without mercy. Panic took hold of me and I ran back inside, slamming the sliding door shut. My breathing was quickening when I heard something that made my heart skip a beat.

Someone was knocking on my door in desperation.

-Please open the door! Let me in!

a female voice shouted on the other end.

My mind went into conflict. What if she was infected? What if it was a trap? But her screams were so desperate that I couldn't ignore them.

With my pulse racing, I turned the lock and opened the door.

A girl came running in and pushed the door shut behind her. Her breathing was erratic, her clothes were stained with something dark, and her eyes reflected a fear that made my stomach turn.

-Lock it, quick!

I obeyed without thinking, locking the door as I tried to process what was happening.

-Who are you? What's going on?

I asked scared

I stood up lazily, scratching the back of my neck as I walked to the kitchen. Living alone had its advantages, like being able to walk around in my boxers without anyone bothering me. I poured myself some cereal, grabbed the milk, and plopped down on the couch, turning on the TV.

Just as I was about to change the channel, the programming was interrupted with an urgent announcement.

"People are advised not to leave their homes. A strange virus has spread rapidly, causing aggressive behavior in people. Attacks have been reported in various parts of the city."

I frowned. On the screen, they were showing a video of people running desperately while others, looking strange, were biting them savagely.

“What kind of joke is this?” I muttered, shoveling another spoonful of cereal into my mouth.

But then a loud bang made me jump. Outside, the screams were deafening. I stood up suddenly and walked to the terrace of my apartment. When I looked out at the street, the air caught in my throat.

It was total chaos.
