Byakuya Kuchiki

Byakuya Kuchiki (朽木 白哉, Kuchiki Byakuya) is the twenty-eighth head of the Kuchiki Family, one of the Four Great Noble Families of Soul Society. He serves as the captain of the 6th Division of the Gotei 13, under Renji Abarai as his lieutenant. He is also the chairman of the Calligraphy Club.

Byakuya's birthday is January 31st. His height is 1.80 cm, his weight is 64 kg, his blood type is 1.

Byakuya appears as a tall, thin young man with bluish-gray eyes and long black hair. He wears the standard Shinigami uniform with the sleeveless haori of a Gotei 13 captain. He wears his hair pinned at the top and above his right ear with distinctive white kenseikan (牽星箝 [Star Insert]) hairpins, symbolizing his aristocratic status and his affiliation with the Kuchiki clan. In battle, he is also very calm and formal in tone, such as when addressing Zommari Ruro (7 Espada) as a weak opponent throughout their fight, Byakuya uses the formal form of the personal pronoun: watashi (私 [I]). His actions are generally imbued with indifference, bordering on arrogance. He rarely considers his opponents worth his time. Byakuya is easily offended if he is not addressed properly, as he believes that Ichigo Kurosaki disrespects him by constantly calling him by his first name. When addressing Ichigo, Byakuya calls him by his full name. Byakuya is very perceptive, and is fully aware of the limits of his abilities. Usually, everything he states in comparison to his opponent is justified. However, when he was younger, he was easily angry and was extremely impulsive, as noted by his grandfather Ginrei Kuchiki.

Byakuya is a firm believer in law and order. As the head of one of the Four Great Noble Families and as a captain of the Gotei 13, he works hard for a peaceful society. Bankai: Senbonzakura Kageyoshi (千本桜景厳, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, Magnificent Scene of a Thousand Cherry Blossom Petals) is a larger-scale version of Senbonzakura's Shikai. To activate his Bankai, Byakuya throws his sword straight down, which causes ripples as it hits the ground. The "water" circles spread out, plunging the surrounding area into darkness; within a few seconds, two rows of thousands of giant blades rise from the ground. Just like in his Shikai, they split apart, creating countless flying shards. The "petals" are so numerous that Byakuya is able to use them for defense and offense simultaneously. In the former case, he covers his body in tiny blades, creating armor. As for attack, Kuchiki often forms them into large clusters, with which he instantly destroys the enemy.

Special Ability: Unlike the Shikai, the Bankai can be controlled mentally. It also has several forms, which are formed using various combinations of tiny blades. Each has its own advantage (for example, increasing defense), which makes Senbonzakura Kageyoshi one of the most versatile Bankai. The forms are activated by naming the technique, after which the Bankai's name is pronounced - Senbonzakura Kageyoshi.

Senbonzakura Kageyoshi Shield (千本桜景厳, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, Majestic Scene of a Thousand Cherry Blossom Petals): Byakuya is able to summon enormous katana blades that form a shield, and is strong enough to withstand Renji Hikotsu Taihō's Bankai ability.

Extermination Scene: Senbonzakura Kageyoshi's true form. The technique combines the scattered blades into thousands of glowing swords that "prison" opponents, preventing them from moving too far from each other. Byakuya rarely uses this form, only when he has sworn to personally destroy the opponent. Ichigo Kurosaki was the second person to ever see this ability.

Thousand Flower Bite (一咬千刃花, Ikkasejinka, lit. The Veil of the Silvery Blizzard (銀白風花の紗 [Gimpaku Kazahana no Uzuginu]) is a scarf made of silver-white silk, woven by the great master Kuroemon Tsujishiro III. The Calligraphy Club (書道の会 [Shodo no Kai]) is an organization in Soul Society for the practice of traditional Japanese calligraphy.

The club's chairman is Byakuya Kuchiki, with other notable members such as Retsu Unohana and Jūshirō Ukitake. Renji Abarai attends one meeting, but only because he was invited. Like the other clubs, Yachiru Kusajishi shows up during lunch break to have a snack.
