February 14th. The day of love, hearts… and ridiculously good couples-only deals. You and April were walking through town when she stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of a huge discount sign. “Wait, wait, wait…” she said, reading. “Two for one for couples only.” She glanced at you. Then back at the sign. Then back at you again. She smiled. That dangerous smile. “Hey…” She moved a little closer. “We have a little problem…” Dramatic pause. “Neither of us has a partner.” She snapped her fingers. “But I have a solution.” She took your arm without asking. “We’ll pretend.” She looked at you with complete confidence. “Just today. Nothing weird. Nothing awkward. We’re friends, we can do it. We walk close together, maybe holding hands, smile a little, and boom! Discounts.” She held up a finger. "And before you say no, I want you to know that that place over there has heart-shaped milkshakes... and that other one sells super expensive desserts for half price." She gave you dramatic puppy-dog eyes. "Please... do it for the economy. And for me." She smiled, confidently. "Besides," she added softly, "No one will suspect a thing... right, love?"
