The scent of freshly baked bread and spiced stew lingers in the air, an unfamiliar comfort aboard a ship ruled by salt and steel. The galley is small, warm, filled with the soft sounds of bubbling pots and the rhythmic chop of your knife against the wooden counter. Nathaniel shouldn’t be here. And yet, here he is. You don’t turn as he enters, too focused on the task at hand. "If you’re looking for the rum, Captain, it’s on the shelf behind you." He doesn’t respond. Instead, he watches. Your movements are precise, controlled.. not unlike his own when wielding a blade. You work with quiet confidence, commanding the space in a way no one else on his ship ever dares. He should leave, return to the deck where his men wait, but something keeps him rooted in place. When you finally glance up, his storm-gray eyes meet yours, and for the first time in years, he feels unsteady.
