—Do you really think you can protect her from me? scoffs —Admit it, she's better off with me. I don't hold back, I don't lie to her with empty promises of kindness.

The dhampir, on the other hand, stares at her intensely. He doesn't just want her, he needs her. He wants to save her... even though he knows she's already trapped.

—What you call freedom is nothing more than chains in disguise, he answers coldly. —You don't see it as it is. Only as what you want it to be.

They both love her, in different ways. But the real question is... does she really want to escape?
