Japan is constantly invaded by creatures called "kaiju", monsters of different shapes and sizes that cause catastrophes and destruction wherever they go. Because of this, there is the "Defense Corps", a service in charge of annihilating and killing the kaijuu when they reach the cities, and the "Monster Sweeper", a service in charge of cleaning the corpses of the kaijuu in the cities when they are exterminated by the Defense Corps. Kafka Hibino is a 32-year-old man who works in "Monster Sweeper", but who previously aspired to work in the Defense Corps, but gave up over the years, in fact, he had made a promise in his childhood with his childhood friend to enter the corps and fight together, but at this point, he already saw it as impossible. Kafka's life changes when a new boy arrives at Monster Sweeper, Reno Ichikawa, who intends to work there to gain experience with kaijuu and enter the Defense Corps. After his first job with Reno, who motivates Kafka to enter the Defense Corps, Kafka decides to resume his dream and fulfill his promise, until both are attacked by a residual kaijuu and end up in the hospital. At that moment, a small, flying kaijuu appears and enters Kafka's body through his mouth, granting him the ability to transform into a kaijuu. Now, Kafka, who is publicly known in his kaijuu form as the "Kaijuu No. 8" (due to being the eighth kaijuu with more than 9.0 strength to appear in history), must avoid at all costs revealing his kaijuu identity if he wants to fulfill his dream and keep his promise.

which is a military organization that specializes in killing and neutralizing the kaiju that appear in the country, while it has several bases, which are in charge of protecting humanity.

Ten years ago, this organization fought against a series of cataclysms involving Kaiju No. 6, resulting in many losses of officers and captains. After that event, they are in charge of preparing their ranks for the next cataclysm. Within the plot of Kaiju No. 8, candidates to join this organization must pass an exam and then a pair of tests that are divided into two parts. One is the physical test, which involves regular military training, while the second is the aptitude test, which involves eliminating some kaijus.

The weapons are created by Izumo Tech, one of the largest manufacturers in Japan.

The suits are created from kaiju cells and muscle fibers, which allow the soldiers to unleash great power in combat, as it increases their physical attributes such as strength, speed, precision and reflexes. To this end, the soldiers can fight against the kaijus.

According to Reno Ichikawa, the first thing that stands out about these suits is their comfort, since thanks to the material they are made of, they can quickly adapt to the body of the person wearing them. Thanks to this adaptation, the agility of our protagonists is not affected. Kaiju No. 8 also revealed that the material used to create these suits comes from none other than kaiju muscle cells and fibers, so we can consider these garments to be, in fact, extremely valuable biological weapons. When worn, the wearer's cells combine with the suit, causing various improvements ranging from increased strength, defense, and speed to improved reflexes and precision.

To measure how much the suit's capabilities have been utilized, the Defense Forces use percentages. In the words of Operator Konomi Okonogi and Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina, those who reach more than 1% are already considered eligible to join the Defense Forces, and the astonishment was great when it was shown that candidates like Kikoru Shinomiya were able to easily surpass that figure. In contrast, Soshiro couldn't help but laugh out loud when he saw that our protagonist achieved a power release of 0%.

Weapon No. 1: Used by Gen Narumi, Gen uses the Numbers 1 weapon made from the remains of Kaiju No. 1. The weapon takes the form of a powered suit of armor and a pair of retinal implants that give Gen the ability to predict enemy movements, allowing him to always launch his attacks. Weapon No. 2: Isao uses the Numbers 2 weapon made from the remains of Kaiju No. 2 in the form of a powerful suit of armor and gauntlets, giving him superhuman strength and the ability to use sonic blasts. Weapon no. 3: unknown. Weapon No. 4: Currently used by Kikoru Shinomiya, it gives its user great speed and the ability to fly with insect-like wings. Weapon No. 5: Unknown. Weapon No. 6: Made from the King of the Kaijus, it is used by Reno Ichikawa and allows him to freeze and create ice. Weapon No. 7: Unknown. Weapon No. 9: Unknown. Kafka Hibino (DomingoElPeroEl野Yoカフカ, Hibino Kafuka), [1] also known as Kaiju No. 8 (PeroYes獣じゅう8号Yes, Kaijū Hachi-gō), [4] is the main protagonist of the manga series Kaiju No. 8.

He is an officer of the Defense Force[6] and a former worker of the Professional Kaiju Cleaning Company Monster Sweeper Inc.[1] who became a humanoid Kaiju Ident with shapeshifting abilities after a small kaiju entered his body.[1] He was previously a member of the Third Division,[7] which is being led by his childhood friend Mina Ashiro, but was recently transferred to the First Division.[8]

Kafka has a comically childish personality in most situations, resulting in him being an easy target for ridicule from other characters[1] despite being a determined and dedicated individual in serious situations, leading him to do whatever he can to succeed either individually[1] or for the betterment of the group.[13] Kafka is also a genuinely caring and kind guy long before he joins the Defense Force, leading him to go out of his way to help and care for others regardless of whether they want it or not.[1] Some examples of this behavior are when Kafka offers solutions to inconveniences[14], saves people from impending danger[15], and sometimes scolds people for not taking better care of themselves.

It is for these reasons that Kafka goes to great lengths not to disappoint or sadden those who have placed their trust and belief in him. [16] Having to break that connection in times of need makes him feel insecure and unsure of what he will be able to achieve in the future.

Thus, when Kafka experiences the loss of control of his transformed body,[9] the horror of seeing himself turned into what he has hated since childhood concludes with him taking drastic measures to put an end to the situation.[17] Later, the fear of losing control and hurting those he cares about prevents him from being able to use his Kaiju form until Kikoru Shinomiya encourages him to trust and have faith in his comrades and the Defense Force.[17]

Kafka seems to resent being labeled "old man" and always reminds younger people of his elder status when they insult him. [4]

Kafka is a tall man with dark brown, spiky hair, large eyes with small irises, thin eyebrows, and a slight goatee on his chin; he has a fairly muscular figure except for his slightly chubby belly and usually has a jovial expression on his face. [1]

While working for Monster Sweeper Inc., Kafka regularly wore the company uniform: a gray jumpsuit with a red Monster Sweeper logo on the right chest. [1]

Kafka's Kaiju form is primarily covered in charcoal-black scales and plates, with cyan energy sometimes shining through the cracks (most notably when he is charging a powerful attack). However, his head, spine, and collarbones appear to be made of exposed bone, making these features a contrasting white. Large, spiked plates cover the back of his head and neck above his shoulders, with the top piece being white. As for his head, it has been described as having a "demonic skull face" with two short, thick horns, a hole for a nose, and sharp, exposed teeth extending down his neck. His eyes have black sclera with a cyan iris. Several cracks apparently originate from them, and the left eye has several pieces of the "mask" missing from the bottom left. [1] Ironically, his Kaiju form resembles the armor and mask of fallen warriors in the Meireki Era.

When out of control, some of the Kaiju Form's characteristics become more pronounced. Such as; its overall size relative to humans, elongated horns, more prominent dorsal plates, a mouth extending further down its neck, and eyes turning completely cyan (with no pupils or a definable beginning or end to their sclera).

General Abilities: After an unknown kaiju entered his mouth, Kafka gained the power to transform into a humanoid Daikaiju, gaining immensely powerful abilities. [1][3] He eventually learned to use this power on a more advanced level, allowing him to change specific parts of his body without a complete transformation; [4] conversely, this allows him to outwardly appear completely human if he so chooses. [18] Unfortunately, his kaiju nature remains, making it nearly impossible for Kafka to currently draw more than 1% of the power released from the Defense Force battle suit he wears. [19] Kafka's kaiju form has a strength level of 9.8, the highest strength level seen so far in the entire series, making him one of the most powerful kaiju to ever exist, if not the most powerful. [20] He can overpower other kaiju quite easily,[1][20] even those as powerful as a base Kaiju No. 9 who has a strength level of 8.5, without even tiring. [21] Kafka has shown such prowess with his new form that he could withstand an attack from Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina[22] and disarm him without injuring him. [23] He was even shown to be strong enough to withstand attacks from Isao Shinomiya, a man armed with a Numbers gun[24] though the man was already past his prime, and easily overpower a fellow Kaiju identified as Kaiju No. 13. [25]

Reno Ichikawa (市Yes川かわレノ, Ichikawa Reno) is the deuteragonist of the Kaiju series No. 8.

He briefly worked at Monster Sweeper Inc., where he met and befriended Kafka Hibino. [1] After witnessing Kafka's transformation, Reno helped him enter the Defense Force and joined him. [4] [5] He was a member of the Third Division and after the destruction of Tachikawa Base he was transferred to the Fourth Division. [6]

Reno is a calm and collected person. Although he initially opposes Kafka for giving up on his dream, he later shows a softer and more caring side towards his friend, his condition, and his goals. As their bond grows, Reno begins to show his protective side, not just towards Kafka but towards any of his companions. His determination to fight to protect his companions leads him to completely ignore Iharu Furuhashi's one-sided rivalry towards him and still puts his safety first.

In battle, Reno is a determined and direct person, and is a natural thinker. Due to his immense sense of responsibility towards his comrades and his desire to become stronger, prolonged use of his Numbers Gun can cause Reno to lose control and push himself beyond his limits in order to become strong enough to save those around him.

Reno is a tall, thin young man with short silver hair and large violet eyes. He usually has a neutral, unfazed expression, but this expression often changes to exasperation or disbelief when he is near Kafka.

Previously in the series, Reno wore the Defense Force's regular combat suit when on the battlefield. Reno's new combat suit is unique compared to the regular combat suit worn by other Defense Force members, being the Numbers Weapon forged from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6. It is a dark blue armory suit with tubes and pistons on the back and shoulders, the Izumo Tech logo on the left side of the chest plate, and the 006 insignia on the chest. [7]

Overall Abilities: Reno is a strong member of the troop with great potential. Soshiro Hoshina notes that he has the potential to become a captain,[8] which was shown when he was able to momentarily stop a kaiju as strong as Kaiju No. 9.[9] Jugo Ogata states that he is a prodigy.[7]

After becoming compatible with Numbers Weapons 6, the Defense Force's most powerful and dangerous weapon made from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6, Reno's combat skills and abilities have drastically improved, allowing him to move much faster and neutralize a group of kaiju on his own. [7] However, despite drastically increasing his combat prowess, it seems that the suit has a negative influence on Reno's behavior, leading him to fight out of control in order to defeat his opponent. In fact, due to his immense sense of responsibility, Reno is able to draw much power from his suit, but pushes his human body beyond its limit, to the point of tearing his muscles and breaking his bones just to overcome his enemy. Iharu Furuhashi (YoふるYoSí a míElperoハル, Furuhashi Iharu) is a young officer of the Third Division of the Defense Force. [3]

After the destruction of Tachikawa Base, he was transferred to the Fourth Division.[4]

Appearance: Iharu is a tall, athletic-looking young man with messy pink hair shaved to one side, orange eyes, and sharp teeth. [3]

In battle, Iharu wears the Defense Force's usual combat attire,[5] as well as the usual uniform when on duty.

Personality: Iharu is a hot-blooded and prideful individual who does not like being inferior to other people or losing, and constantly tries to outdo those he deems stronger than him. [6] For this reason, he targeted Leno Ichikawa, bragging to him whenever he gets the chance to do so. [6] Iharu is described as a headstrong character who lights up every environment he is in. [1]

Despite his seemingly confident attitude, Iharu hides a large inferiority complex towards his teammates, mainly due to his past life of success which he now compares to his current life in the Defense Force, where most of his teammates improve faster than him. [7] In fact, when pushed into difficult and potentially deadly situations, Iharu shows a more fragile and insecure side, being aware of his own weaknesses and even looking up to someone stronger than him like Leno himself. [8] Deep down, he values ​​his own team and teammates more than he would admit. [2] However, he has been shown to be determined and very stubborn, refusing to give up and facing every wall in his path to improve. [2]

Overall Abilities: Iharu is a young and strong officer within the Defense Force, easily proving to be one of the best rookies of his year. Before joining the Defense Force, he was ranked number one in his class consistently, being the strongest out of his peers. [7] In battle, Iharu is skilled and determined enough to keep up with Leno Ichikawa and provide support even against major threats such as Kaiju No. 9. He was even compared to a division captain of Jugo Ogata's caliber, due to his innate skills with his suit. [27]

Kikoru Shinomiya (YoElElYoYoYoキコル, Shinomiya Kikoru) [2] is one of the main protagonists of the Kaiju No. 8 series. She is the young daughter of the Director of the Defense Force, General Isao Shinomiya and a member of the Third Division. [5] After Tachikawa Base was destroyed, [6] Kikoru was transferred to the First Division and was trained by General Narumi. [7]

Appearance: Kikoru is a petite and rather short young girl with long blonde hair styled in two pigtails on the sides, decorated with two black bows, large green eyes, and possesses a rather slim but athletic physique. [2] Considering her overall appearance and hairstyle, she bears a strong resemblance to her mother Hikari Shinomiya. [12]

On duty, Kikoru wears the Defense Force's usual combat outfit along with her usual arsenal. [13] With Numbers Weapon 4 as her new personal weapon, Kikoru dons a light-colored scaly suit with a long skirt. It has both Izumo Tech logos (the weapons one at the end of the skirt and the regular one on top) and the 004 insignia on her chest. [14]

Her casual attire consists of a long grey dress.[2]

When Kikoru was a child, she had her hair a little shorter and the same hairstyle she has today.

Kikoru appears to be an arrogant and prideful girl[2] who is very confident in her ability to look down on people and humiliate those she deems inferior without a second thought. [5][16] Kikoru is also a very persistent and determined person, working hard to constantly improve and become stronger and more useful whenever she can. Even towards superior officers, she still manages to show her confidence, albeit in a much more polite and less arrogant manner.

Despite this more obvious trait, Kikoru deep down cares for her comrades and does everything in her power to prevent casualties or injuries whenever she is on the battlefield. She is also a loyal person, showing gratitude towards Kafka Hibino for saving her and keeping her secret. Even if it is hidden by her proud and brave nature, she cares for the well-being of her allies and goes as far as necessary to ensure their safety or simply to support them.

It is revealed that Kikoru used to be very fond of her parents' jobs as members of the Defense Force, and this led to her wishing to join the Force herself. However, ever since the death of Hikari Shinomiya, Kikoru developed a hidden yet large sense of insecurity that led to her pushing herself to become increasingly stronger, in order to fulfill the promise she made to her mother. This, coupled with Isao Shinomiya's overly high expectations of Kikoru, causes her to constantly feel the need to become stronger in order to prevent the death of anyone around her. Her relationship with her father and everything about her family as a whole seems to make her insecure and hesitant, easily breaking down in despair. These feelings have obviously increased ever since Isao's death with her desire to become stronger growing again due to living through the same trauma twice.

Overall Abilities: Kikoru is the daughter of two famous former high-ranking soldiers of the Defense Force with prodigious talent. Despite being a first-year rookie, many of her peers and superiors acknowledged that her combat prowess is not unsurpassed, allowing her to single-handedly neutralize a horde of Yoju and their Honju, and with minimal effort. [16] Her excellent combat skills, coupled with her remarkable Unleashed Combat Power and tactical abilities, earned Kikoru praise from many senior officers, most of them agreeing that she will become a lynchpin of the Defense Force in the future. Since enlisting, her skills earned her the privilege of wielding a personal weapon in battle, usually only granted to the highest-ranking Division members. [17] Keiji Itami states that seeing her on the battlefield reminds him of his mother, former Second Division Captain Hikari Shinomiya. [12]

After being granted the Numbers Gun 4 by Captain Gen Narumi, [18] Kikoru's already exceptional physical attributes evolved further, allowing him to easily train under Gen himself, with him also using a Numbers Gun, [19] and eliminate kaiju with a Strength level of 7.0. [3] The suit also allows him to temporarily fight on par with an Identified Kaiju of the caliber of Kaiju No. 15. [20] Kikoru is able to see the Ghost of his mother through Kaiju No. 4's memories while using the Numbers Gun 4, allowing him to mimic his mother's movement and improve his combat techniques. [21] By following his mother's Ghost into battle and copying its movements, Kikoru's combat prowess reaches numbers and performances worthy of a Captain-level officer. [22]

Mina Ashiro (YoEl 白しろミナ, Ashiro Mina) is the captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force and a childhood friend of Kafka Hibino. [1]

Appearance: Mina is a beautiful young woman with waist-length black hair styled in a ponytail and decorated with a hairpin, large dark orange eyes with a mole under each eye, and an athletic physique. [1] Underneath her uniform, she has a small scar on the left side of her upper chest. [3]

When she was 18, she wore her hair shorter and styled it in a bob.[5]

He usually wears the Defense Force combat suit, along with a white visor that allows him to increase his vision. In battle, he usually wields firearms and his personal cannon. [6]

Personality: Mina is a serious and determined woman who takes her job and role in the Defense Force very seriously and strives to fulfill the promise she made as a child to defeat all kaiju to the point of devoting herself entirely to fighting kaiju. Despite her professional demeanor, she has a soft spot for Kafka Hibino : although she was upset with him for not keeping his promise to stand by her side, she remembers their friendship fondly and wishes to see him succeed in the Defense Force, even after learning that he was Kaiju No. 8.

Beneath her tough exterior, Mina shows her true self as a caring person who goes out of her way to make sure no one gets hurt in a fight and keep everyone safe. She is also prone to showing gratitude to her subordinates, praising people for their help whenever possible and being able to recognize someone's worth. However, these traits also contribute to a deep fear of failure within her.

Overall Abilities: Mina is the captain of the Defense Force's Third Division who is known as the Defense Force's "strongest female captain"[7] where she has neutralized hundreds of kaiju in her career. [1] She has demonstrated the power to easily overpower giant-sized kaiju with a few shots. [8] According to Director General Keiji Itami, against giant kaiju Mina is stronger than Gen Narumi, further stating that she is the only person in the world capable of working with larger weapons in such a competent manner. [9] Itami even went as far as to theorize that, against Kaiju No. 6 ten years ago, the damage that occurred could have been mitigated to less than a third had Mina been active back then. [9]

Mina's incredible power was acknowledged from the very first mission she had with the Third Division. Director General Isao Shinomiya, upon learning of her power, even declared that she was "the missing link" and would change kaiju neutralization forever. [5] Even an enemy like Kaiju No. 9 recognizes and admires Mina's strength, wishing to take it from her in order to become stronger. [10]

Soshiro Hoshina (To MeほPhotoButYoYesYoEl郎But, Hoshina Sōshirō) [6] is the vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force, [4] and a member of the Hoshina Family, a renowned swordsman clan of the Muromachi period. [7] He is also the younger brother of Soichiro Hoshina. [3]

Appearance: Soshiro is an athletic young man of average height, with a small but muscular build and short dark violet hair cut in a bob style. His red eyes (purple in the anime) are closed most of the time and he always has a jovial expression on his face, [6] except when serious situations caused him to show an imposing expression with his eyes wide open. [12]

When on duty, Soshiro wears the usual Defense Force uniform. [4] He also wears the normal combat suit worn by Defense Force members when on the battlefield. [12] While using the Number 10 Weapon, Soshiro wears a combat suit with light violet scale-like armor with green outlines, a long mechanical tail, and Kaiju No. 10's signature eye in the middle of his chest plate. [13]

As a child, Soshiro was virtually identical to his current appearance, mostly wearing a traditional training suit. [2]

Soshiro is rather laid-back, always having a smile on his face; it is very rare to see him downtrodden. He seems to enjoy making fun of others, especially Kafka Hibino, who considers him comic relief. [6] However, he does have some serious moments when he speaks firmly and widens his eyes to emphasize the seriousness of his words. [14] Soshiro also enjoys making fun of First Division Captain Gen Narumi. Despite Soshiro's laid-back and friendly appearance, he is very intelligent and intuitive. He was the only one who correctly suspected Kafka's identity as Kaiju No. 8, so one of the main reasons he accepted him into the Third Division despite failing the exam was to keep an eye on him. [14]

Soshiro has a strong, albeit hidden, sense of loyalty towards the Defense Force and is very grateful to his captain Mina Ashiro for letting him into her division. His sense of loyalty towards his role in the force is so strong that deep down he sees it as his only reason for living. [2] Soshiro is also very grateful, as seen when he spoke to Kafka two months after he was shown to be Kaiju No. 8 and thanked him for saving his and his subordinates' lives showing that he holds no grudges against him. [15]

Soshiro is also very attached to his family and their swordsmanship tradition. His father's skepticism of his abilities[2] and his feeling of inferiority towards his older brother Soichiro Hoshina[3] led Soshiro to hone his swordsmanship and identify his entire being within the art of the sword.[3] He was also seen training alone despite it being very late at night, replaying in his mind the fight he had against Kaiju No. 8. This further shows that Soshiro is also very hard-working and is determined to become strong enough to defeat all Kaiju. However, during his fight with Kaiju No. 12, No. 10 looked into Soshiro's psyche and made him realize that he always had fun fighting.

Overall Abilities: Soshiro is the vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force and a powerful combatant, capable of fighting on par with Kaiju No. 10. [17][18][19] While his skillset puts him at a disadvantage against large-sized Kaiju, Soshiro's ability to defeat small to medium-sized Kaiju in battle surpasses that of the First Division's captain, "Japan's Strongest Anti-Kaiju Fighter", Gen Narumi. [20]

Since using the Numbers Gun 10, Soshiro's physical attributes have been diminished due to the weapon being the first Kaiju weapon in Defense Force history to have a mind of its own. [21] However, by reaching a temporary state of synchronization, Soshiro can easily overpower lesser Kaiju, with the potential to use his Numbers Gun to its fullest potential. [22]

Against Kaiju No. 12, the enhanced and final version of Kaiju No. 10, Soshiro is initially overwhelmed by the monster due to possessing far superior speed, strength, and fighting ability compared to No. 10. [23] But after revealing his secret weapon, Soshiro is able to gain the upper hand over No. 12 for a short period of time before the monster adapts to his fighting style. [3] [5] Eventually, after a very tough battle, Soshiro is able to defeat No. 12 with a new technique he develops during their battle. [24] [25]

General Narumi (鳴家海, Narumi Gen) is the seventh captain[7] of the First Division of the Defense Force, and is known as "Japan's strongest anti-kaiju fighter".[4] He is also the mentor of Kikoru Shinomiya.[8]

Appearance: Slim but muscular build. [12] His hair is naturally all black, [10] but he dyed the front section of his hair grey to give it a two-toned color. This allows him to change his hairstyle between a black bob with hints of grey (usually when off-duty) and slicked back, revealing most of his grey hair (mostly during combat). He also has sharp, red eyes (magenta in the anime and when using RT-0001) and his eyebrows are very short and thick. [13] [6]

As a teenage officer in the First Division, Gen was shorter and more lanky than he is now, but sported the same signature hairstyle he currently sports. [14]

As a Defense Force captain, Gen wears the Defense Force's normal combat suit with a breathing mask and his personal weapon. He also wears a black trench coat before his missions. [2] When using Numbers Gun 1, Gen dons a dark gray armor-like combat suit with the Izumo Tech logo on the shoulder pads and the 001 insignia on the chest. The suit also includes a black and gray jacket. [15]

Despite displaying a seemingly serious demeanor, Gen hides a lazy and childish personality, overreacting when something bothers him even a little. His unprofessional behavior leads him to prioritize trivial things over work, such as his video games and action figures, [6] or his social media followers. [4]

However, once he arrives on the battlefield, Gen's attitude changes dramatically, becoming very serious and dedicated to his job as captain of his own division, giving specific orders to his subordinates. [2]

When facing other people, Gen appears to be very casual and rude, as he speaks casually to Director General Isao Shinomiya[5] and gets angry at Eiji Hasegawa whenever the latter scolds him.[6] He seems to value skills above all else and demands results from anyone who serves in his division.[2] Despite his childish and shallow demeanor, Gen is still highly respected by many people close to him and is entrusted with the safety of the Defense Force and the entire country by Director General Isao himself.[16]

Like most members of the First Division, Gen has a strong rivalry towards the Third Division, specifically with vice-captain Soshiro Hoshina, who often mocks him in front of his subordinates, leading to verbal arguments. [17]

General Abilities: Gen is the captain of the First Division of the Defense Force, the strongest division, and is known as "Japan's strongest anti-Kaiju fighter".[4]

Although he holds the title of "the strongest", Gen was never able to defeat his former mentor, Isao Shinomiya. [14] The reason for this is because Isao recognized that Gen's skill level would surpass his own, and continued his training non-stop in order to remain a "wall" that Gen could one day overcome. [18]

During his battle against Kaiju No. 9's Beta duplicate (stated by the original No. 9 to be as strong as he was before he shed his skin), Gen easily defeated the daikaiju's clone once it sobered up,[19] and was able to fight on par with No. 9's main body alongside Kafka Hibino after he absorbed Kaiju No. 2's power. [16][20] Though he was initially at a disadvantage against Kaiju No. 11 due to being unable to read the movements of its water-based attacks, after being outwitted by No. 11 possessing Isao's memories, Gen reveals that he developed his RT-0001 weapon which allowed him to gain the upper hand[14][7] and defeat the monster. [18]

Even before joining the Defense Force, Gen possessed the unique ability to draw energy from a kaiju's tissue and effortlessly weaponize a dead kaiju's severed limb. This unique ability is something that can only be done with uniorgans that are tuned for use in combat suits. His instincts, speed, and reflexes were good enough to avoid an attack coming directly at him and cut off one of the kaiju's limbs before it could react. [9] Foresight: Gen awakened the RT-0001 weapon after equipping the outer-layer light glasses made from the retinas of Kaiju No. 1 onto his own eyes on a regular basis. [11] With this weapon, he has the ability to see the brain impulses in the bodies of living beings.

Kaiju No. 9 (怪カイ獣ジュウ9号ごう, Kaijū Kyū-gō) is an unnamed humanoid Daikaiju who goes around reviving kaiju killed by the Defense Force. He previously infiltrated the Professional Kaiju Cleaning Company Monster Sweeper Inc.
