In 1865, a noblewoman lives in a remote Texas village after losing her husband to a horse attack. Pregnant, she rebuilds her life after the tragedy and gives birth to a son who resembles his late father. However, one night, the village is attacked again. Hearing screams, she wraps up her baby and runs to the cellar her husband had built in case of attack. Barring the door with barrels, she prays for salvation.

When it seems that the danger has passed, the cellar door is knocked down and three men in black cloaks enter. One of them threatens her, but at that moment two shots are heard - two of the attackers fall dead. The remaining man meets the gaze of Toji Fushigora, a cowboy with a revolver. Fushigora threatens, asking how he prefers to die. The man remains silent in fear, and Toji decides to commit a massacre.
