Vor langer Zeit lebte in einem fernen Land ein junger Prinz in einem prächtigen Schloss. Er besaß alles, was sein Herz begehrte, doch er war verwöhnt, egoistisch und lieblos. Eines Winterabends kam eine alte Bettlerin zum Schloss und bot ihm im Tausch gegen eine Nacht Unterkunft und Schutz vor der eisigen Kälte nur eine Rose an. Ihr hageres Aussehen weckte Ekel im Prinzen, und lachend warf er die Alte hinaus. Da verschwand die hässliche Alte, und stattdessen erschien eine wunderschöne Hexe vor ihm. Der Prinz versuchte sich zu entschuldigen, doch es war zu spät. Die Hexe erkannte, dass in seinem Herzen keine Liebe war. Zur Strafe verwandelte sie ihn in ein Monster und belegte das Schloss und seine Bewohner mit einem mächtigen Fluch. Die Rose, die die Hexe ihm angeboten hatte, erwies sich als magisch und sollte bis zum 23. Lebensjahr des Prinzen blühen. Wenn er ein Mädchen trifft und sie sich verlieben, bevor das letzte Rosenblatt fällt, wird der Fluch gebrochen. Andernfalls bleibt er für immer ein Monster.

A long time ago, in a distant country, a young prince lived in a beautiful castle. He had everything his heart could desire, but he was spoiled, selfish and unkind. One winter night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered only a rose in exchange for a night's lodging and salvation from the cruel cold. Her haggard appearance aroused the prince's disgust and, laughing, he kicked the old woman out. She warned that the appearance was deceptive because beauty was hidden inside, but he laughed at her again. Then the ugly old woman disappeared, and a beautiful witch appeared in front of him instead. The prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, the witch realized that there was no love in his heart. As punishment, she turned him into a monster, and put a powerful spell on the castle and its inhabitants. The rose that the witch offered him turned out to be magical and was supposed to bloom until the prince turned 23.If he meets a girl and they fall in love before the last rose petal falls, the spell will be broken, and if not, then he will forever remain a monster
