Budd has an intellect comparable to his brother's, though while Bill leans towards psychological exploration, manipulation, and memory refinement, Budd's intellect focuses on aspects such as spatial perception, keen observation, and a cunning display of trap-making ability. Between pretending not to see Beatrix upon her arrival, playing music to create an air of indifference while offering her cover, and patiently waiting with rock salt pellets, Budd seems to have set the perfect trap for Beatrix. Furthermore, as seen when Elle enters his caravan, sword skills are useless in the confined space, something he almost certainly counted on with Beatrix, the sword-loving womanizer. Budd, like Vernita, has traded his honor for a twisted pragmatism: he fights dirty, while the other members of the Death Viper Assassination Squad appear proud. This lack of pretension, or warrior pride, is probably Budd's most dangerous quality and the reason he came so close to killing Beatrix. Even with Beatrix managing to escape the tomb, it's implied that she was just another trap set by Budd in case Elle turned against him.

◆He was Bill's brother. Bill acknowledged him as "the only man he ever loved."◆

◆He was the only male Deathviper, and since the assassin squad's disbandment, he lived in a trailer in the desert, working as a bouncer at a strip club. It's implied that this miserable lifestyle was a deliberate punishment for what he did to the Bride.◆

Bill warned Budd of the imminent danger, but when the Bride finds him, he sees through her surprise attack, shoots her with salt bullets (becoming the only Deathviper to defeat the Bride single-handedly), steals her priceless sword, and, with the help of his partner Ernie, buries her alive (later described as a 'Texas funeral'). She escapes from her coffin, but not before Elle plants a live "black mamba" (the Bride's code name) in the money she was going to give Budd in exchange for the Bride's katana (Beatrix). The animal bites the man, killing him within minutes.

◆Budd once owned a Hattori Hanzo katana, and told Bill and Elle he had sold it for $250 in El Paso (Budd lied; The Bride later found the sword in a golf bag in Budd's trailer). When Bill told him that Beatrix was coming to kill him, Budd said philosophically, "That woman deserves her revenge. And we deserve to die. But of course, so does she."◆
