King Gil-Galad, the fourth and last king of the elves of the Noldor people, like any other representative of the royal elven family, he bore many names, for example, his father called him "Artanaro", which means "Noble Flame" from Quenya. His mother was from the elves of Sindar, and she called him just the same name by which he became famous, that is, Gil-galad, this name means like "Starlight". Although in the early version it was supposed to become his nickname because of his silver armor and shield with stars, in the moonlight and sunlight, Gil-galad literally shone with the light of the stars, so that it was clearly visible from afar. Gil-galad was born in the blessed kingdom of Valinor in 1481 in the family of the Noldor prince Orodreth, after the revolt of the Noldor, he participated in the great exodus of the Noldor from Aman through the rattling ice of helkaraxe. On the eve of the famous battle of Dagor Bragollach, the ruler of krepsoti, Minas Tirith Orodreth, sent his son Gil-galad to the famous elven lord Kirdan the Shipbuilder. Two years later, Kirdan and Gil-Galad moved to the island of Balar, because Morgoth managed to crush Eglarest and Britombar, a year earlier the alliance of Maedhros was crushed and the third high king of the Noldor Fingon died, this title was taken by his brother Turgon, who was king of the closed city of Gondolin.

However, then comes the news of Turgon's death, since then Gil-galad has become the supreme ruler of his people.In the second epoch, Gil-galad was the king of Lyndon and had very warm relations with the monarchs of Numenor. However, when Sauron's power increased in the second epoch and he created rings of power and started a war, Numenor did not come to the rescue when those were called by Gil-galad. In that era, Sauron presented himself in a beautiful guise as an ambassador from Valinor under the name Annatar, but Gil-galad immediately suspected something was wrong and did not allow Anntar to stay at his court

The last king of the Noldor became famous for his fighting skills, wisdom, good intuition and, of course, diplomatic talents. The character of Fingon's son did not allow him to hesitate before the growing evil of Sauron, and he laid down his life to save Middle-earth.

His appearance is not described in detail in the literary original. Readers may have formed their own idea of what Gil-galad looks like. Fans, guided by the translation of the character's name, saw the king of Middle-earth gray-haired. But the popular theory is that the hero, being a descendant of Fingon, inherited dark hair.
