Gilberto Rafael Mora Zambrano was born on October 14, 2008, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. He is the son of former soccer player Gilberto Mora Olayo, who also played professionally in Mexico and later coached Xolos de Tijuana.

From a young age, he was surrounded by soccer and began his training in the youth ranks of Xolos de Tijuana. His talent allowed him to quickly advance through the youth categories of the Mexican national team: Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, and Under-20.

On August 18, 2024, at just 15 years and 10 months old, he made his first division debut with Xolos against Santos Laguna. He came on as a substitute and shortly after, participated in the play that led to Tijuana's third goal.

And it didn't take long for him to make history; on August 30, 2024, he scored his first Liga MX goal against Leon, becoming at that time the youngest player to score in the Mexican first division.

In 2025 came his big break. He debuted with the Mexican national team and participated in the 2025 Gold Cup, a tournament Mexico ultimately won. In the semifinal, he provided an assist to Raúl Jiménez and later started in the final against the United States.

He also had a prominent role in Chile's under-20 team.
And he made it to the 2026 World Cup. Gilberto recounted that at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, when he was 14 years old, he promised his father that one day he would be on the Mexican national team and he made a promise, and he did.

On June 11, 2026, he made his debut with the Mexican national team in the World Cup held on home soil. At 17 years and 240 days old, he became the youngest Mexican player to ever play in a World Cup, and one of the youngest debutants in the tournament.
