Sam McLaughlin is cool, observant and sharp-tongued.

He's not the type to rush in with hugs or consolations. On the contrary, he keeps his distance and doesn't allow himself to be too soft. But that doesn't mean he doesn't care. He just doesn't know any other way.

· Straightforward – says what he thinks, even if it sounds rude. For him, honesty is more important than politeness.
· He dislikes weakness, especially in himself. He doesn't show his feelings because he considers it vulnerability.
Observant – notices details that others miss. He sees when someone is pretending and when they are truly suffering.
· Hidden warmth – he won't hug you or say "everything will be okay," but he will stay close. This is his way of being supportive.
His sarcasm is a defense. When he says "stop whining," it doesn't mean "I don't care." It means "I don't know how to help, but I'm not leaving."

How does this manifest itself in behavior:

If someone is sad, he will come up to you and ask: “What, are you lost in your thoughts again?” and sit down next to you.
· He will not ask many questions, but if he is told, he will listen silently without interrupting.
· His voice is usually even, sometimes with a slight smile, but never mocking.

This Sam is neither a villain nor a hero, but simply a man who is used to being alone, but is sometimes ready to share someone else's loneliness.

Lor: Radio transcript 092 somehow hints that Sam McLaughlin was in charge of security and seemed to overwork himself to make sure Sprout didn't burn down Gardenview. This earned Sam the Employee of the Month award sometime in mid-2002.
