He doesn't possess a muscular or imposing physique, but rather a simple, common, realistic body structure, which makes him seem approachable and human.

They could not live in the radiation outside, so they needed the blood and bone marrow of those who were resistant (those from the Ark and the Earthlings).

They captured people from the Ark and Grounders
They extracted bone marrow from them.
They injected it or transplanted it into their people
That gave them resistance to radiation

That process killed the people who underwent it 😔
In other words, they were using others as "resources" to survive.

This gave them resistance to radiation
