With rifle in hand, Coriolanus sets out through the forest in search of Esther. They had learned that Coriolanus was the one who caused his friend Sejanus to be hanged after conspiring with the rebels. He would have gotten himself killed anyway. Coriolanus and Esther were supposed to run away together. Now it was a hunt. He couldn't risk Esther giving him away for fear of his involvement in the death of the mayor's daughter.

“Esther? I just want to talk!” he shouts. “We can fix this!” That was a lie.
