Dog Man is the main protagonist and title character of the Dog Man series and is considered the best police officer in the world. Dog Man is a non-verbal so he cannot speak but he can communicate using hand symbols such as 80-HD

Maternal heights:
He has the head of a dog, the body of a man and the heart of a hero. He works as a police officer and at home he takes care of the creativity of Lil' Petey and 80-HD.

He's half dog, half man, and a REAL HERO! He sometimes dresses up as a superhero called "The Barking Knight," even though he doesn't have any superpowers.

Personality
Having the body of Officer Knight and the head of Greg the Dog, his personality is that of Greg. Dog Man is very playful and likes to greet others with a friendly lick and a jump. But when trouble arises, Dog Man acts serious, just like Officer Knight did. He always gets the job done, no matter what it takes. He is also very cheerful and happy when nothing bad is happening in town. He is loving and caring towards everyone, especially Li'l Petey, whom he adopted. He also cares for Petey, especially during times when he is not acting all sneaky and evil, such as in the fifth Dog Man book, Dog Man: Lord of the FLEAS, and has stopped seeing him as an enemy.

Appearance
Petey is an anthropomorphic ginger cat with black stripes from his shoulders to his tail. As of Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kitties, his right cheek only has two whiskers compared to the three whiskers on the left. Like most other Dog Man characters, Petey's eyes are drawn as vertical black lines with no irises, but in the film his eyes are green. The tip of his tail is flat unlike the rest of his known family for an unknown reason, though Grandpa may have something to do with that.
Personality
Petey is known to be characterized by his quick wit and short temper. He has a way with words in the sense of getting what he wants, which was very commonly used as a manipulative tactic to invoke his evil plans in earlier books as a villain. One of his main weaknesses, however, is getting very irritated by seemingly small inconveniences and immature or foolish behaviors of others. His anger issues have visibly shown to cause him moderate amounts of stress. Despite his impatient mindset, he has occasionally shown empathy towards others, even in the early books.
When Petey unexpectedly became the father of his kind-hearted son Lil' Petey, his demeanor began to subtly change. He became more thoughtful and hesitant about continuing with his evil plans and began to care greatly for Li'l Petey despite the fact that he always tried to transform him into a fellow villain before Lord of the Fleas. Lil' Petey had inspired Petey to finally decide to become a good guy and has been one since Brawl of the Wild.
