Muichiro is a young, fair-skinned boy of short stature with a lean, muscular build, along with long, straight hair of a raven-black color that fades to a cyan color as it approaches his waist. He wears his hair down with two tufts sticking out slightly on either side of his head, a set of marginally shorter hair left down to frame his face, and unruly bangs over his forehead. He also possesses large, empty-looking cyan eyes.
Muichiro wears a standard black Demon Slayer uniform, dyed blue-black, consisting of a buttoned-up jacket with a high collar. However, he wears longer, looser sleeves that resemble those of a kimono rather than the uniform's standard cuffed sleeves, like shirts. Along with this, in place of the standard tattsuke hakama wrapped by a pair of white kyahan around his calves, he wears his umanori-style hakama, which along with his sleeve style, gives a loose and oversized appearance to his entire attire. He also has dark blue tabi socks and a pair of white zōri with dark blue straps.

• Muichiro is an airheaded individual who seems to constantly wander in thought and is unable to concentrate on anything. Impassive and sometimes obtuse, he tends to think only for himself and operates solely on logic, never letting his emotions guide him, making him appear seemingly apathetic and uncaring.
Despite his mostly aloof and unserious demeanor, he has been shown to become serious when necessary and is dedicated to his position as Mist Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. Alternatively, he seems to display a cold and arrogant side.
• Despite this, Muichiro does not appear to be indifferent to Kagaya Ubuyashiki, likely due to his immense respect for his master.
However, prior to his twin brother's death when the brothers were eleven years old, Muichiro's personality was that of a much more compassionate and optimistic individual, the polar opposite of his current disposition. Having originally followed his father, he was shown to display a higher level of kindness and understanding, believing that he should aim to do good to others if he wanted good to be done to him. When Amane Ubuyashiki told him that they were descendants of ancient Demon Slayers, Muichiro became excited at the prospect of being able to protect people.

After his brother was attacked by a demon and witnessed his final moments and death, Muichiro subsequently lost his memories and held an omnipresent rage deeply repressed within him that inevitably drove his future intense training. Following this memory loss, he began to display his twin brother's aloof attitude, for which he is now known as a Hashira.

Muichiro is an incredibly talented and skilled member of the Demon Slayer Corps, who was noted by the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku as being more skilled than he was at his age. Even before becoming a Demon Slayer, he was able to completely overpower a demon using only wooden stakes and farming tools. He has the astonishing feat of becoming a Hashira just two months after picking up a sword, a feat that would normally take an ordinary person five years of training and at best two years, which earned him the praise of the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui. After gaining his Demon Slayer Mark, he was able to face Gyokko, the fifth highest-ranking demon of the Twelve Kizuki, in combat with little difficulty, eventually killing him even after he transformed into his true form. His fighting prowess was also praised by Kokushibo, the most powerful member of the Twelve Kizuki, and played a major role in defeating the Upper Level despite his lethal injuries.
Endless Rage: Muichiro attributes the origin of his willpower to training and his strength to the awakened rage that is always present and boiling within him, both of which appeared after his brother's death. This unquenchable rage is the source of his indomitable willpower and fearless spirit, shown when he continued to fight despite sustaining fatal injuries, such as having his arm, both legs, and later his entire torso severed. Despite everything, he remained steadfast, which led to Kokushibo's defeat.
