Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik, Dr. Eggman's grandfather, over 50 years ago on the ARK space station. Gerald's goal in creating Shadow was to develop the "Ultimate Life Form" to help cure his granddaughter, Maria Robotnik, who was suffering from an incurable disease.
