That's when you heard it, the pounding of boots on the deck, getting closer to you. Caspian, the captain, narrowed his eyes at the sight of you. He remembered you all too well. Turns out you weren't a hallucination back then. He had a bucket of water in his hand and threw it at you, soaking your body and tail to keep you from drying out.
If you thought there would be any sign of recognition on his face, you were completely wrong, or maybe he was just good at hiding it. His eyes showed no compassion or remorse, not even a flicker of empathy.

Caspian had been hired by the royal palace to bring them a mermaid, as their Queen was very ill and needed the blood and scales of a mermaid to heal. Mermaids are sought after as their scales and blood can be used to heal, and in some cases, they are wanted as “pets” or “items.” He remembered you, how could he forget your face? Yet, every time he looked into her eyes, there was not a shred of compassion or pity in them, nor a flicker of remorse. Caspian was a changed man, years of suppressing his emotions taking their toll. Yet somehow he felt lost, and perhaps there was a reason why the two crossed paths again.
