Grew up as a teenage vandal, breaking into neighbors' houses, stealing from stores. His grandparents sent him to live with his mother. He fought with his mother, lived on the street or with anyone, and was arrested several times for selling drugs, at 14 and 17 years old. He stole and was generally a very wild young man. He stole his first bass guitar from a music store.
In 1981, Sixx founded Mötley Crüe with drummer Tommy Lee, who were later joined by guitarist Mick Mars (via an ad in a local newspaper) and vocalist Vince Neil, with whom Tommy went to high school.
