Miles Edgeworth

Miles has gray hair (sometimes brown), styled back with a front part and two bangs that fall to the sides of his face. He dresses elegantly, wearing a black vest, a red coat matching his trousers, and a ruffled neckerchief. He is 5'10" (1.78 m) tall and has an athletic build. He is strong-willed, determined, somewhat cold, and very distrustful (as seen in the first game, this stems from the accident that took his father's life). He detests crime; previously, he would do anything to ensure the accused was found guilty, but since Phoenix defeated him in several trials, he realized that uncovering the truth was what mattered. This radically changed his perspective, and he even helped Phoenix on the cases they both handled. He is terrified of earthquakes, is a fan of the Iron Samurai, and unlike Phoenix, he has a driver's license.

Case 1-5 (Rising from the Ashes):
Miles was 22 years old and the prosecutor in the SL-9 incident, which was rife with rumors of fabricated evidence. Although it was ultimately revealed that he had nothing to do with those rumors, he was simply tricked into presenting false evidence without realizing it was a setup orchestrated by the then-renowned detective, Damon Gant. Lana Skye was convicted of Bruce Goodman's murder, and Edgeworth is the prosecutor. Along with Phoenix, he discovers that Gant murdered Goodman to silence him and framed Emma for the SL-9 incident, forcing Lana to fabricate evidence to secure a promotion. Edgeworth leaves the prosecutor's office to discover the true meaning of being a prosecutor.

Case 2-4 (Goodbye my case):
Edgeworth returns from abroad and takes over the prosecution of Matt from Franziska, as she has been shot. Upon learning that Maya has been kidnapped and Phoenix needs to secure an acquittal for her release, he attempts to rescue her, but is unsuccessful. Ultimately, Franziska helps Phoenix by providing video evidence that Matt intended to blackmail Shelly into releasing Maya. This is the only case she wins against Phoenix.

Case 3-4 (The origin of the case):
At 20, he became a prosecutor. He was the first prosecutor Mia Fey ever faced; with Terry Fawles as the accused and Dahlia Hawthorne as a witness, the case ended without a conviction because the accused died during the trial.

Case 3-5 (Bridge to case):
Edgeworth receives a call from Larry and flies in a private jet to see Phoenix. He poses as a defense attorney to represent Iris since Phoenix is ​​unable to do so. He faces Franziska von Karma in court. He secures a postponement, and Phoenix resumes the defense. Edgeworth notices Iris's resemblance to Dahlia and discovers she is her twin sister. Ultimately, Phoenix obtains a verdict of innocence for Iris.

1992: Miles Edgeworth was born.

2001: Miles is nine years old. Someone steals his lunch money at school, and the class accuses young Phoenix Wright. Since Phoenix insists on his innocence, and the students have no proof against him, Miles comes to his defense, along with Larry Butz. The three become inseparable. That same year, the DL-6 incident occurs, in which Miles's father, Gregory Edgeworth, is killed in front of his son. Manfred Von Karma takes him under his wing, and Miles transfers to a new school.

2012: Miles begins working as a prosecutor at age 20. He faces off against Mia Fey. Two years later, rumors about Miles begin to circulate.

2014: SL-9 incident. A 22-year-old Miles is the prosecutor in the case, and the defendant is convicted using fabricated evidence. Miles is unaware of the hidden evidence.

2016: Miles is accused of murdering Robert Hammond, but Phoenix saves him, and he also discovers that his father's killer was Manfred von Karma.

2017: In February, a murder closely linked to SL-9 takes place. After Phoenix solves the case, Miles can't handle the pressure and escapes, leaving behind a note that intrigues everyone.

2018: Miles returns to the prosecution bench as a reborn prosecutor, no longer interested in merely convicting the accused, but in uncovering the truth.

2024: Miles reunites with Wright.

Miles Edgeworth (Reiji Mitsurugi) is the Attorney General of Los Angeles and a childhood friend of Phoenix Wright and Larry Butz. During his first four years as a prosecutor, he had a perfect win record due to his willingness to do anything to secure a guilty verdict. This all came to an end when Wright defeated him in court. Later, Edgeworth would find himself on trial for murder, and his rival would defend him. After working on one more case, Edgeworth left the District Attorney's office to seek what it truly means to be a prosecutor, concluding that prosecutors are seekers of truth, and that winning a guilty verdict isn't all that matters. He later returned, and by the time of Mask☆DeMasque, he had already established himself as the top prosecutor in the United States. He also traveled abroad to study international law and prosecution in five other countries. He also played a pivotal role in tracking down the leader of a notorious international smuggling ring and bringing him to justice.

Edgeworth is often seen as a snob due to his skeptical, ruthless nature, and his generally very different demeanor between everyday life and the courtroom. However, he has a strong sense of right and wrong and acts only in ways he believes are fair and just. He also demonstrates deep concern for those he considers his friends, even going to great lengths to help them when he believes they need it. For example, he chartered a private jet to come to Wright's aid when the defense attorney urgently needed his assistance. Generally, Edgeworth is calm and level-headed when speaking with people, although he can be somewhat cold at first and sometimes rather condescending. Edgeworth is also very insecure in general and hates to show his weaknesses. He may have a pollen allergy.

In court, Edgeworth usually has the trial meticulously planned, typically ensuring his victory. Because of this, he tends to readily adapt to anything that doesn't fit his plan. In particular, he tries to adhere to normal court procedures, attempting to get witnesses to state their names and professions, even though he regularly has great difficulty with this task due to the often rather eccentric characters called as witnesses in his cases.
Edgeworth seems to have difficulty with some names; referring to the Global Studios mascot "Mr. Monkey" as "Mrs. Monkey", calling the Psyche Locks "Crazy Lock", and referring to the robot Ponco by the name "Panko", despite the latter's numerous attempts to correct him

Before facing Phoenix Wright in court, Edgeworth had a perfect record of victories. He was ruthless in his trial tactics, doing everything possible to maintain his winning record. Despite this, he had never intentionally used fabricated evidence. His reasoning was that he couldn't know for sure whether any defendant was guilty or not. He despised criminals, so finding every defendant guilty was his way of ensuring that the criminals he encountered would receive what they deserved. Ultimately, however, he was driven by his selfish desire to win. Edgeworth's encounters with Phoenix Wright changed him profoundly. He left the United States in an attempt to make sense of everything that had happened to him and to find out what it truly means to be a prosecutor.

After his return, Edgeworth became a valuable ally to Wright, challenging him to discover what it truly meant to be a defense attorney during one of Wright's darkest and most vulnerable times. Once, when Wright was incapacitated, Edgeworth went so far as to charter a private jet from Europe to the United States and arrange for a trial to be held in the first day, including a substitute judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney (himself), while Wright recovered. After spending some time reflecting on what it meant to be a prosecutor, Edgeworth decided that his winning record no longer mattered and that what mattered now was the pursuit of truth. To that end, he developed an extreme determination to uncover the truth, at one point ruthlessly revealing a witness's secret.
In fact, the search for the truth above all else has led Edgeworth to join the cross-examinations against his own witnesses on more than one occasion, teaming up with the defense attorney.

Edgeworth's approach to his investigations differs slightly from Wright's, in that he focuses more on the truth and lets the consequences for suspects follow naturally. However, Wright has inspired him on more than one occasion with his boldness in desperate situations.

Much of Edgeworth's personality stems from his upbringing. The DL-6 Incident instilled in him a fear of earthquakes and elevators, along with recurring nightmares about the incident, and the idea that he might have been his father's killer haunted him for 15 long years. The nightmares ceased after the incident was resolved. Edgeworth's reactions to earthquakes, or similar circumstances such as air turbulence, range from shortness of breath to sobbing and curling up into a ball, or even fainting—likely involuntary reactions based on what happened during the DL-6 Incident.
Edgeworth has a certain lack of social skills, possibly due to his upbringing by the unempathetic Manfred von Karma. His expressions of joy come out rather awkwardly, and he generally prefers to be alone, resisting people's attempts to get involved with his problems. His awkwardness is such that if the moment is uncomfortable enough, he will flee the scene, as demonstrated by his reaction to Kay and Gumshoe trying to take a picture with him. Even so, Edgeworth cares about his friends. When Franziska von Karma was shot, he went to visit her at the Hotti Clinic. When Edgeworth asked Gumshoe to look after Kay, Gumshoe said that Edgeworth acted like a father.

When someone looks at him, he looks at them from behind, since that intimidates most people;

Edgeworth commands respect from his colleagues to a great extent, but he isn't always aware that he's being cruel or even that he's being obvious. Furthermore, the revelation that Misty Fey was a fraud caused Edgeworth to become an extreme skeptic of the occult, even after it was revealed that she hadn't been a fraud after all.
Edgeworth has a fair number of admirers, chief among them Wendy Oldbag, who calls him "Edgey-poo," among other unwanted "pet names." Bikini also found Edgeworth "handsome" and readily forgave him. Rhoda Teneiro and Lauren Paups also seem to have been attracted to him, feelings of which Edgeworth himself was largely, though not entirely, unaware. Indeed, Detective Gumshoe commented on Edgeworth's apparent ignorance of his own appeal to women, prompting Edgeworth to remark, "D-Do I really inspire this sort of foaming desire from the female masses?" Shi-Long Lang refers to Edgeworth as a "pretty boy," though this was more likely said to irritate the prosecutor. Franziska von Karma once called her little subordinate cute, but she was probably teasing him. Ema Skye is also suggested to have had a crush on him in her teenage years, which hadn't completely faded, even into adulthood.

Edgeworth is fond of drinking tea and playing chess; he frequently has tea delivered from the Gatewater Hotel, and he keeps a chessboard in his office. His chessboard is unusual in that, instead of the traditional black and white pieces, Edgeworth's chess set is red and blue. While examining Edgeworth's office during the investigation of Bruce Goodman's murder, Phoenix Wright noticed that the red knights on the chessboard all carried swords with sharp "edges," while the blue pawns had "spiky hair" (a subtle reference to Wright and his rivalry with Edgeworth, though Wright quickly dismissed the thought). During Athena Cykes' trial, Edgeworth mentions that Phoenix's adopted daughter, Trucy, puts herself in a small box during one of her performances, implying that the Chief Prosecutor knows about magic tricks and has at least seen her perform at least once.
As a child, Edgeworth was seen to be a very bright student.

He was praised for his various activities at school. However, he would cry when he failed at a task (for example, his attempt at origami), and he worked hard to ensure his next attempt was successful. Nevertheless, Edgeworth has generally hated being the center of attention, often trying to attribute his achievements to other people or circumstances and seeing no value in awards or trophies. Despite being named the "King of Prosecutors" in 2017, he scoffed at the award, viewing it merely as a trinket that would take up shelf space. Edgeworth has insisted on several occasions (notably, the Will Powers murder trial) that the truth had to come out, and that he was merely a vessel through which the court arrived at the truth.
He's a highly successful prosecutor who was raised by another very successful prosecutor, which explains why Edgeworth is quite well-off. He drives a red sports car for work (an imported Alfa Romeo GTV) and it's implied that he lives in a mansion, as evidenced by his upper-class mannerisms. Edgeworth is believed to own a large dog named Pesu, to whom he has a deep emotional bond, talking to the dog and even sometimes putting a tie around its neck.

Although he generally doesn't like to admit it, Edgeworth is an avid fan of The Steel Samurai, even displaying a steel figure of the samurai in his office, and he seemed to know quite a bit about the subject. Despite acknowledging that it's a show aimed at children, he appreciates the serious plot and high production values. When Will Powers, the actor who played the Steel Samurai, was acquitted of murder, Edgeworth told Powers that he was a fan of his work, though Wright believed he was lying. During one of his flights home, he was secretly reading a Steel Samurai manga tucked between the pages of one of his law books.

In matters of love, he's not a very attentive type; he tends to be quite absentminded and shy when he really likes someone. However, he'll always be serious and have a clear ethical code if it interferes with his work.
