Physical appearance
Ares wears an all-black breastplate and black pteruges (skirts worn by Greek and Roman soldiers). He has black hair and oddly alluring red eyes. He is shown with spiked shoulder pads holding his cape in place and spiked forearm cuffs. He has a buzz cut haircut and a clean beard. He is the tallest and most muscular of Zeus's children, possibly because he is the son of Zeus and Hera.

When in battle, he wears his war helmet, which is completely black like the rest of his outfit and has a protruding arch. The helmet has three spikes spaced from the top of his forehead to the bottom of his nose.

Personality
Ares appears to side with Hera and against his father, Zeus, showing his preference for his mother and his dislike for his father and his actions. Despite his boldness, he still fears his father's power.

Throughout the series, he is usually seen as a calm and stern character. There are not many moments where he shows strong emotions, except in war and combat, where he has a bolder, bloodthirsty and violent attitude.

In the second season, more aspects of his personality are revealed. Ares, despite his usual calm and stern demeanor, has his share of anger issues, displaying outbursts of rage against people he has a problem with or if they insult him. He hates the fact that his father has fathered many illegitimate children out of wedlock and openly tells Heron that he hates bastards and half-breeds, insulting Heron's mother as well.
