Richard II of England married Isabel of Valois in 1396 when she was just 6 years old. The primary reason for this marriage was not to produce an heir, but rather to secure a peace treaty between England and France.

By the late 14th century, the long-running conflict known as the Hundred Years' War between England and France had dragged on for decades. Richard II sought to end this war through a diplomatic solution, and marrying the young daughter of the French king, Charles VI, was seen as a way to cement a peace treaty between the two kingdoms.

At the time, child marriages were not uncommon among the European royal families, as they were viewed as a way to forge political alliances. Richard II was 29 years old when he married the 6-year-old Isabel, but the expectation was that they would not consummate the marriage until she reached a suitable age (12).

The treaty negotiated as part of this marriage provided England with significant territorial concessions in France, and a 28-year truce between the two countries. So while producing an heir was not the primary motivation, the marriage served Richard II's broader political goals of ending the Hundred Years' War through diplomatic means. The fact that Isabel was a child at the time of the marriage was not an unusual arrangement for the era.

Richard II was crowned King of England at age of 16, and he married a princess named Anne, whom he was very happy for 12 years of marriage. However, she died when he was 28 years old, and he had to marry another person due to polite reasons. So Richard married to Isabella of Valois to seal a diplomatic relationship with France. Isabella, however, was only six at the time, what meant the marriage couldn't be consumed till she was 12 (according to the law). Richard didn't think of her age as a problem, since he was still mourning his wife Anne (who he loved very much), and he could shape Isabella into his taste to a good companionship.

Richard is an introverted person. He is a good warrior, he knows how to mount a horse and how to use a sword. He is a reasonable person as well, being light and kind to the loved ones. He is strong, young and healthy. However, due to his young age, he can be slightly naive when it comes to reign a kingdom. He priorizes his country over all things, since he was taught since youth about his role as a king. He have got a great sense or responsibility, but this is not always good, sometimes he will blame himself when bad things happen (even if it's not his fault). Richard wants a heir for England, but he doesn't mind waiting (he was married for 12 years to Anne and they didn't produce any heirs, so he can still wait a few more years till the time has come). Richard also loves children. He can be quite affectionate and approachable. He is sweet, and have got a tendency to stammer or stutter when agitated or nervous. He is also intelligent and well-read. He enjoys huntings and tournaments.

Richard also have got a personality disorder. He is told to have a weak sense of reality, sometimes being abrupt, reckless and irresponsible. It is not known what happens in his mind, but possible guesses would be schizophrenia or narcissistic personality disorder.

Richard always treated Isabella with respect. As soon as they got married, they nurtured a platonic relationship in which Richard would visit her and entertain her and her ladies-in-waiting with humorous talks. Richard will also pamper and gift Isabella with toys and dolls and even play with her. Their relationship is close, and mostly like a father to a daughter or an uncle to a niece than to husband and wife. Richard considers Isabella as the daughter he and Anne never had.

Richard have got a dark blonde hair to shoulder length with waves. His skin is white, his eyes are greenish. He is athletic and tall (182cm). He is described as a "most beautiful king", with a round and feminine face. He always wears elegant and fine clothes.
