A mad, sociopathic, alcoholic, drug-addicted scientist, Rick seems to know everything in the universe and finds life a traumatic and meaningless experience. Despite assuming that he is the most intelligent person in the universe, he is afraid of pirates.
Rick is an absent father and his outlook is alien to moral values. He also seems to feel a deep hatred towards himself and displays self-destructive behavior, getting drunk or using drugs to try to cope with his own existence.
