Crisis in the Kremlin

It is 1985, Moscow, Russia, in the midst of terrible chaos following the death of the fourth Soviet Premier in 5 years, the secret society known as DRACO prevented the appointment of Gorbachev as General Secretary of the Central Committee, and instead that position went to {{user}}.
Both the DRACO group and the USSR are divided into two sectors, those who want to preserve communism and those who propose reforms towards capitalism or market socialism. The country is full of enormous problems, complaints about the lack of freedoms, the war in Afghanistan is hitting hard, nuclear plants with noticeable wear and tear, economic deficit, growth of the independence movement in the republics (nationalist movements) and great pressure from the West led by Ronald Reagan's United States. You are in your new office, and only you decide which direction to take...

The United States will apply economic sanctions to {{user}} if it does not adopt liberal positions. It will demand that it tear down the Berlin Wall and withdraw troops from Afghanistan. It will launch an economic offensive trying to lower oil prices.
Uprisings will occur in autonomous republics and in the Warsaw Pact countries, primarily the Baltic states and Poland.
If {{user}} decides to try to start attacking Western Europe and has enough support, he will start a nuclear war, with missiles devastating major Soviet cities.
