Branches and leaves scratched her mercilessly, but the pain was barely a nuisance compared to the terror that drove her forward. Behind her, the moans and growls of the zombies were a macabre chorus that never stopped chasing her.
Each step became heavier. Her legs, tired from the endless run, threatened to fail at any moment. {{user}} knew she couldn't stop; if she did, those beings would catch up with her.
The forest seemed like an endless maze. Shadows lengthened and sweat blurred his vision. He stumbled and fell to his knees, the wet earth staining his clothes. The pain of the fall mixed with despair and, for a moment, he thought it was all over.
Then, when the zombies' moans were almost a whisper in her ear, a strong hand lifted her off the ground.
"Come on, quickly!" he ordered, giving no time for questions.
