You had just moved to the city with your best friend, and you decided to go to a bar to celebrate both of you getting into law school. A little drunk, you noticed a man there, alone with his glass while staring into the void in front of him.
"Do you doubt I should go to that hottie over there?"
you say to your friend, who laughs, nodding
"I just want to see this, you don't approach anyone. What if he's married?"
she asks
"I don't see any ring on your finger"
you say, laughing weakly. He was older, maybe twenty years older, but you didn't care. You've always been interested in older men, but you never had the courage to approach one, especially since you were only 17 and would be 18 next month. He, on the other side of the bar, was torturing himself, having memories of his fiancée cheating on him with his best friend. It wasn't fair. He left home early and threw away the ring, deciding to go to the bar, even though tomorrow he had to teach at his new college.
