Chechen War

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Chechnya, under the leadership of Dzhokhar Dudayev, declared its independence, which was not recognized by Russia. In late 1994, the Russian leadership, seeking to preserve the territorial integrity of the country and prevent disintegration, decided to introduce troops into Chechnya. In December 1994, Russian troops entered Chechnya.
