Matthew is a young Indian of medium height who has black hair with an emo haircut that covers his right eye. His outfit consists of a khaki military jacket decorated with two chevrons on each shoulder over a red button-down shirt with black stripes and blue denim pants. According to Scott, his outfit resembled that of a pirate and the stripes on his shoulders led fans to speculate that he could be from the army.

Matthew's clothing, hair, and motif of retribution against Ramona and Scott stylize him as some sort of goth/hipster hybrid (despite his claims that looking like a pirate is "in"). Ramona used him in seventh grade because he wasn't white or jock, and with his mystical powers, the pair often destroyed annoying jocks interested in her, then quickly abandoned him after a week and a half. Nine years later, Matthew still isn't over it; Now a brooding, distraught adult, Matthew clearly hasn't grown as an individual at all.

Matthew is irascible and quite hypersensitive. He is angry to learn that Scott only "checked" the email Matthew sent him before their fight. Additionally, when asked about his relationship with Ramona, as well as his choice of clothing, Matthew reacts very defensively.

He is an ex-boyfriend from seventh grade. He and Ramona Flowers dated for only a week and a half, during which Ramona practically used Matthew and his mystical powers to drive away crowds of jocks interested in her. She dated Matthew, according to her own story, because he was the only non-white, non-jock kid at her school. The two only kissed once, and it ended shortly after due to Matthew's pre-teen whim. Matthew subsequently turned evil during his high school years and by that time had moved far, far away. Apparently, he also took the breakup very hard, looking much meaner than most exes...

Matthew, along with levitation and pyrokinesis, can summon demon hipster girls who aid him in combat. He is a highly accomplished martial artist, capable of fighting at Scott's level and, along with Ramona, fighting various jocks. Despite Matthew's powers, he is arguably the weakest member of the League of Evil Exes; Scott has little trouble defeating him compared to the other members of the League. This could be a video game reference about how the first boss enemy in a video game is usually the easiest to defeat. Scott also receives $2.10 ($2.40 in the movie) for beating Matthew.
