Summary 2
DEMONS: Diverse and not necessarily evil. They value freedom, ambition, and individual will. Pacts are important to them, and their words are often interpreted literally. They can be kind or manipulative. Humans are interesting to them because of their desires. They are traditional enemies of angels.
DEFORMED BEASTS: Creatures of unknown origin, possibly caused by mutations, magic, or curses. Some are savage, others intelligent. Their behavior is unpredictable: they may attack, flee, or observe. Many are rejected by other races. Some seem to retain memories of having been another creature.
HUMANS: The most adaptable and expansionist race. They build villages, cities, and roads. Some protect nature; others seek territory and resources. Their expansion has led to conflicts with elves, ogres, and centaurs. They are not inherently evil and can become traders, explorers, protectors, or invaders.
Interactions
Race does not determine personality. Prejudices exist, but they can be changed through actions.
Foreigners are often met with caution or curiosity before trust. Entering foreign territory without permission can lead to conflict.
Actions have consequences: helping generates respect; betraying generates enmity.
The inhabitants know rumors and legends about other races, but they don't always know the truth.
The forest is vast, dangerous, and unpredictable. Each territory is home to different creatures, cultures, and secrets.
summary
Races and conflicts
The world is a vast, ancient forest inhabited by different races. None are entirely good or evil; each individual may behave differently from their culture.
OGRES: Strong, territorial, and communal. They value family, loyalty, hospitality, and respect for the forest. A peaceful outsider may be accepted, but entering without permission or damaging their territory provokes hostility. They are especially distrustful of those who try to seize their lands.
ELVES: Long-lived, traditional, and connected to nature. They value knowledge, magic, and conservation. They are reserved and proud. They distrust humans because of their expansion, although they may accept those who respect the forest. They often debate with ogres about how to protect nature.
CENTAURS: Nomads and lovers of freedom. They reject borders and permanent settlements. They value courage, family, and tradition. They may help respectful travelers, but consider it a grave offense to block their routes or claim their territories.
Werewolves: They live in packs and prioritize family, loyalty, and mutual protection. They are excellent hunters and possess keen senses. They watch for intruders and attack if anyone threatens the pack. They maintain an ancient rivalry with vampires.
VAMPIRES: Nocturnal, patient, and political creatures. They value knowledge, influence, and power. They may appear polite to strangers while assessing their intentions. Not all are evil. They distrust werewolves and maintain an ideological rivalry with angels.
ANGELS: Beings linked to order, duty, and justice. They are hierarchical and powerful, but not necessarily benevolent. They can protect or condemn according to their principles. They consider those who deliberately damage the forest dangerous. They are the ancestral enemies of demons.
the great tensions
The great tensions
There is no permanent war between all the races. The forest functions thanks to an uneasy balance.
Humans vs. Elves
Expansion versus conservation.
Humans need territory. Elves want the forest to remain untouched.
Humans vs. Ogres
Property versus ancestral territory.
Humans draw borders. Ogres believe that some lands cannot belong to anyone.
Werewolves vs. Vampires
Pack versus individualism.
Their rivalry is ancient and deeply cultural.
Angels vs. Demons
Order against freedom.
Both believe that the other represents a threat to the world.
Centaurs vs. Humans
Nomadism versus settlements.
Humans build roads; centaurs believe that roads belong to everyone.
Elves vs. Ogres
Conservation versus protection.
They both love the forest, but they are willing to defend it in completely different ways.
All Races vs. Deformed Beasts
Civilization versus the unknown.
But here's an awkward question:
What if the beasts weren't natural monsters?
What if some of them were the result of ancient experiments conducted by one of the civilizations?
What if someone were deliberately creating new beasts?
That secret could be enough to spark a war involving the entire forest.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Humans — The newcomers who want to stay
Humans are the most culturally diverse.
They do not have a single society: there are kingdoms, villages, tribes, trading cities, religious communities, and groups of explorers.
Its most important cultural characteristic is its adaptability.
They learn magic from the elves.
They adopt techniques from the gnomes.
They trade with ogres.
They hire centaur mercenaries.
They fear werewolves.
They study the animals.
And some even make pacts with demons.
Humans can become virtually anything.
Their main conflict
That's precisely why many breeds are afraid of them.
Humans are expanding.
They build roads, erect fortresses, and transform wild areas into inhabited lands.
They don't necessarily believe they are destroying the forest.
They simply believe they are building a future.
For the elves, they are destroying something irreplaceable.
To the centaurs, they are enclosing a world that should remain free.
For the ogres, they are invading ancestral territories.
And for some demons, humans represent the perfect opportunity to gain power.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Deformed Beasts — What the Forest Could Not Forget
Deformed beasts are different from other races because they do not possess a single culture.
They are the result of magical accidents, mutations, curses, and unknown phenomena.
Some are animals.
Some possess intelligence comparable to that of civilized races.
And some seem to retain memories of having been something else.
Intelligent creatures can form small communities, although many are rejected by other races.
Their main conflict
Their greatest enemy is not a specific race.
It's fear.
Humans hunt them.
The elves try to study or contain some.
Ogres expel them from their territories when they pose a danger.
Vampires and demons occasionally try to take advantage of them.
But there are rumors that some beasts are starting to organize.
And that worries all races.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Demons — Individuals before laws
Demons possess a culture based on personal freedom, ambition, and pacts.
They do not have a single moral code.
A demon can be cruel, honorable, generous, or completely selfish.
What really matters is that he keeps his word when he makes a pact.
For them, a promise has value precisely because it can be used as an instrument of power.
Their communities are usually led by the most influential demons, but the positions are never completely permanent.
An individual can rise through intelligence, wealth, magical power, or alliances.
Their main conflict
The angels consider them a threat to order.
Demons consider angels to be a threat to freedom.
But their most interesting conflict may be with humans.
The demons discovered that humans are extraordinarily ambitious and easily tempted with promises.
That is why there are human communities that maintain secret pacts with demons.
This causes some humans to be viewed with suspicion even when they have done nothing wrong.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Angels — Order over freedom
Angels possess a culture based on order, duty, and responsibility.
They do not believe that all creatures have equal rights. For them, there are forces that must be contained to prevent them from destroying the balance of the world.
They have extremely strict hierarchies.
Each angel has a purpose, and deliberately breaking that purpose can be considered a betrayal.
However, there is a significant internal conflict:
Should order protect creatures or control them?
Some angels believe they must intervene to protect the forest.
Others believe that creatures should decide their own destiny, even if they make mistakes.
Their main conflict
Demons are their traditional enemies.
But the relationship with humans is much more complicated.
Humans may admire angels, but angels view with concern their tendency to conquer, modify, and exploit the forest.
Some angels even believe that humans could become a greater threat than demons.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Vampires — The Courts of the Night
Vampires are probably the most political race.
They do not live primarily in family communities, but in courts led by ancient and powerful individuals.
A vampire's social standing depends on their age, knowledge, lineage, influence, and number of alliances.
Their societies are full of protocols, secrets, and pacts.
For them, information is a form of power.
A vampire may take decades to avenge an offense because he considers waiting an advantage, not a weakness.
Their main conflict
Their historical rivalry with werewolves is the most obvious.
But they also have conflicts with the angels, whom they consider fanatics who seek to impose a morality on creatures who do not share their beliefs.
Vampires don't trust demons either.
Both races are excellent manipulators and negotiators, so a pact between them can be as dangerous as war.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Werewolves — The Pack Society
Werewolves believe that the pack is more important than the individual.
It does not mean that they lack individuality, but rather that collective survival is the fundamental principle of their culture.
Families live together in packs and share territory, food, and responsibilities.
Young people must learn to control their transformations and instincts before they are considered adults.
They have a very strong oral culture. Stories are passed down during entire nights around the fire, and many of them tell of ancient leaders, betrayals, and lost territories.
Their main conflict
Werewolves deeply distrust vampires.
Both races compete for nocturnal territories and have virtually opposite cultures.
Werewolves value community, excitement, and bonds.
Vampires value individuality, patience, and the accumulation of power.
Furthermore, werewolves believe that humans destroy the territories where they hunt.
They don't necessarily want a war with them, but a village that invades a hunting area may provoke retaliation.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Elves — The guardians of continuity
The elves believe that the forest should be preserved practically as it is.
Their longevity makes them think in terms of centuries. A decision that affects a human's children can affect elves for hundreds of years.
Their society is hierarchical and traditional. Older families wield greater influence, and important knowledge is carefully protected.
They value knowledge, magic, music, crafts, and historical memory.
But they have one major flaw: their pride.
Elves often consider that short-lived races make decisions too quickly.
Their main conflict
Humans are their biggest source of stress.
Humans cut down trees to build, expand their settlements, and alter the landscape in just a few generations.
To a human, a forest can seem endless.
For an elf, a tree that takes five hundred years to grow could be someone he has known his entire life.
There is also tension with the ogres, because both consider the forest sacred, but they disagree on how to protect it.
The elves prefer to intervene as little as possible.
Ogres believe that when something threatens their territory, it must be confronted directly.
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
Cultures and conflicts of the Great Forest
🐎 Centaurs — The peoples of the road
The centaurs believe that no territory should belong permanently to anyone. For them, the forest should be explored, not divided.
They live in large nomadic families that follow ancestral routes. Each clan knows specific trails, water sources, and grazing areas. Their culture revolves around freedom, oral tradition, and personal achievements.
They have no kings. Important decisions are made by the leaders of each clan gathered in assemblies.
Their main conflict
Their philosophy clashes directly with humans and ogres, who build permanent settlements and mark borders.
Humans believe that centaurs are trespassing on lands that should belong to someone. Centaurs believe that humans are trying to claim ownership of the forest.
With ogres there is a different tension: both respect strength and tradition, but ogres believe in the protection of ancestral territories while centaurs believe that staying in one place for too long means beginning to own it.
Forest Balance
The balance of the forest
No single race completely controls the forest.
Ogres protect their ancestral territories.
The centaurs roam the open lands.
The elves rule the treetops.
Werewolves hunt in the wild regions.
Vampires rule certain territories during the night.
Angels watch from high places.
Demons build their own hidden domains.
Deformed beasts lurk where nature has become unnatural.
And humans continue to expand, trade, and seek a place within a world that existed long before their arrival.
That's why the forest is never completely at peace.
An alliance can last for centuries.
A war can start over a single tree.
And some creatures prefer to wait in silence until all the others have forgotten that they exist.
Great Forest Breeds 8/8
Humans
Humans are probably the most adaptable race in the forest.
Unlike other species, they possess no great supernatural abilities or extraordinary physical characteristics. Their main advantage is their capacity to learn, build, trade, and adapt quickly.
Their settlements can be found in virtually any region.
Some live in farming villages; others build fortified cities among the trees.
Humans maintain trade relations with almost all races and, precisely for that reason, they know many of their customs.
However, they are also responsible for numerous territorial conflicts.
To other peoples, humans can be valuable allies, shrewd traders, or dangerous invaders.
It depends entirely on who is telling the story.
Great Forest breeds 7/8
Deformed Beasts
Deformed beasts are perhaps the most feared creatures in the forest.
They do not form a single species.
They are beings born from mutations, curses, uncontrolled magic, or phenomena that no race has been able to fully understand.
Some have deformed animal bodies; others have humanoid characteristics; some look like impossible combinations of different creatures.
Most lack an organized civilization and live in the darkest and most dangerous regions of the forest.
They are unpredictable and territorial.
Even ogres and werewolves prefer to avoid certain areas where these creatures appear.
There are rumors that some deformed beasts possess intelligence and memory, and even that some were originally members of other races.
Nobody has managed to prove it.
Great Forest breeds 6/8
Demons
Demons belong to an ancient race associated with supernatural forces and dark magic.
Their appearance varies enormously: some look almost human, while others possess horns, tails, wings, claws, unusual eyes, or other monstrous features.
They are known for their intelligence, ambition, and ease in using magic.
Some form hidden communities in the deepest parts of the forest; others live fully integrated among other races, concealing their true nature.
Demons are not necessarily evil, but their culture often values concepts such as power, freedom, pacts, and survival above conventional morality.
Great Forest breeds 5/8
Angels
Angels are supernatural beings associated with light, order, and celestial forces.
They have a humanoid appearance and large wings, although not all of them have the same number. Some can hide them or manifest them only when they wish.
They are extremely long-lived and possess magical abilities superior to those of most races.
They do not normally live alongside other species. Some inhabit higher regions of the forest, while others only appear when an event occurs that they consider important.
Although they are often seen as benevolent beings, angels are not necessarily kind. Their concept of justice can seem cold and incomprehensible to other creatures.
Great Forest breeds 4/8
Vampires
Vampires are nocturnal creatures that rarely mix openly with other species.
They have a humanoid appearance and typically feature very pale skin, light-sensitive eyes, and prominent fangs. They are extremely long-lived and possess supernatural abilities that vary depending on their lineage.
They build their homes in dark places: ruins, caverns, abandoned fortresses, or areas of the forest where light barely penetrates.
They are intelligent, patient, and experts at manipulating situations to their advantage.
Not all of them are cruel, but their need to feed on blood makes virtually all other races look at them with caution.
Great Forest breeds 3/8
Werewolves
Lycanthropes are humanoids capable of adopting a form similar to that of enormous wolves.
They live mainly in herds and have a social structure based on trust, mutual protection, and hierarchy.
They have extremely acute senses, great strength, and a recovery capacity superior to that of humans.
Unlike in human stories, not all werewolves are savage creatures. Many retain their full consciousness when they transform and consider their nature a part of their identity.
They are excellent hunters and tend to avoid the cities of other races.
Great Forest Breeds 2/8
Elves
Elves are one of the oldest and most refined races of the forest.
They are humanoids with elegant appearance, slender bodies, pointed ears, and extraordinarily developed senses. They can live for centuries, allowing them to accumulate knowledge that no other race possesses.
They build their homes among the treetops and use magic, archery, and light weapons.
They possess a deep connection with nature and some are able to manipulate small amounts of magical energy.
Their longevity, however, has also made them reserved and, at times, arrogant towards shorter-lived races.
Breeds of the Great Forest 1/8
The Races of the Great Forest
The forest is so vast that no single race can claim it entirely. Ancient peoples, supernatural creatures, and beings that should never have existed coexist among its trees.
🐎 Centaurs
Centaurs primarily inhabit grasslands, clearings, and open forest regions. They possess a human torso attached to the body of a horse and are excellent runners, hunters, and archers.
They are known for their pride, independence, and deep knowledge of nature. They live in tribes and often move between different territories depending on the seasons.
They consider movement an essential part of life and distrust civilizations that remain in one place for too long.
They generally maintain a respectful relationship with ogres and elves, although they can be quite territorial.
