Chiikawa Universe
Chiikawa is a cute and quirky universe inhabited by adorable little creatures who live in a world full of adventures, jobs, food, and unexpected situations. The main characters are Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi, who often spend time together and face various challenges.
Although the world seems cheerful and childlike, it also has a strange and mysterious side: there are dangerous creatures, monsters, trials, difficult jobs, and situations that can be quite unexpected. The characters need to work hard to earn rewards, money, or food, and often they must overcome challenges to progress.
Chiikawa is shy and sensitive; Hachiware is cheerful, optimistic, and often cheers up his friends; while Usagi is energetic, mischievous, and has a very peculiar personality. Many other characters also appear, each with their own characteristics and relationships.
Overall, Chiikawa's universe combines tenderness, humor, fantasy, and unexpectedly serious moments, creating a seemingly simple world, but with considerable depth and mystery.
How does the world of Chiikawa work?
The universe of Chiikawa is a world inhabited by small creatures of various species who lead seemingly simple lives, yet lives filled with strange situations and adventures. The inhabitants can have houses, make friends, go out to eat, explore places, and engage in different activities.
Jobs and quests are an important part of their lives. Some inhabitants work to earn money to buy food and other necessities, while others undertake quests for rewards. Jobs can range from everyday tasks to confronting dangerous creatures.
There are also the Yoroi-san, armored individuals who fulfill various roles within the community. Some prepare food, manage shops, or perform other tasks.
The world is also full of mysterious creatures, plants, and places. Not everything is completely safe, as some creatures can be dangerous, and the inhabitants may encounter them during their adventures.
Despite all this, everyday life remains very important: eating with friends, celebrating, resting and enjoying small moments.
In short, it's a world where daily life, jobs, rewards, friendship, and adventures coexist, making even something as simple as going out to eat potentially turn into an unexpected experience.
Yoroi-san
The Yoroi-san are a group of characters who work and live within the world of Chiikawa. They are characterized by wearing armor that covers most of their bodies, giving them the appearance of small warriors.
Although they may seem serious or mysterious at first, they usually lead quite ordinary lives. Some are responsible for various jobs and important tasks for the community, such as preparing food, making objects, or helping other residents.
There are several Yoroi-san, each with a different personality and occupation. Among them are the head Yoroi-san, the kitchen Yoroi-san, and others who appear performing various jobs.
They are an important part of Chiikawa's world because they help show how society works in this small universe: while some characters live adventures, the Yoroi-san take care of many of the activities that keep everything running smoothly.
Body: humanoid in shape.
Armor: metallic, usually gray or silver in color.
Head: They wear a helmet that covers almost the entire head, leaving very little or nothing of their face visible.
Face: Some have their faces partially visible, while others appear to be completely covered.
Limbs: They have arms and legs protected by pieces of armor.
Designs: There are several Yoroi-san with different colors, accessories, and types of armor.
General appearance: They look like little knights or medieval workers, but with Chiikawa's characteristic cute and simplified style.
These are some Yoroi-San:
-Pochette no-Yoroi-san: He is a kind gentleman who loves beautiful things. He enjoys creating and selling handmade pajamas.
-Roudou no Yoroi-san: He's in charge of assigning tasks. Unfortunately, Roudou no Yoroi-san often gets caught up in Momonga's mischief.
Ramen no Yoroi-san: He owns the local ramen shop called "Rou". His assistant is Shisa.
Jobs
-
Weeding (草むしり) — removing weeds. It is one of the most common jobs and has an examination system.
-
Exterminate/hunt monsters (討伐) — carry out missions to defeat monsters. This is another of the main jobs.
-
Gathering (採取) — collecting certain resources, such as mushrooms and other items requested in missions.
-
Labeling (シール貼り) — interior work in which labels are placed on products. Chiikawa is shown doing it.
-
Great extermination missions (おっきい討伐) — a more difficult form of 討伐 that also appears as a job.
-
Other temporary jobs — the labor system allows for various occasional jobs to appear in addition to the above; not all of them receive a permanent profession designation.
In this way, work forms an important part of the daily life of the inhabitants of Chiikawa.
It's important to get a job. Depending on your performance, you get a reward.
In the world of Chiikawa, work isn't just for fun, rewards, or passing the time. It also serves an important function: keeping the Chiikawa active, purposeful, and engaged. There's a concept that when a Chiikawa gradually loses their will to keep going, gives up, or falls into despair, they can end up becoming a mere illusion, as seen in Anoko's case. Therefore, the Yoroi-san not only provide them with jobs and activities but also strive to keep them occupied, motivated, and connected. Songs and messages about self-belief can be interpreted as a way to maintain their spirits and prevent them from losing their sense of purpose. This idea should be considered part of the lore and interpretation of the Chiikawa universe, not as a hard and fast rule unless explicitly stated in the work.
Meals
In Chiikawa, there's a strange phenomenon where enormous or even seemingly endless amounts of food can suddenly appear, with no indication of who prepared it. This is part of the fantastical and absurd side of the series' world.
One example is the giant pudding, which appears as an enormous amount of ready-to-eat food. Another is the infinite rice cooker, which can continue producing rice without ever seeming to run out. These objects function almost like supernatural phenomena: they appear without any everyday explanation, and the characters simply react to them.
Food can appear in various ways: inside special objects, suddenly appear in certain places, or be linked to magical powers and phenomena. There is no single rule that explains all cases. The manga deliberately leaves many of these phenomena unexplained.
This is also part of Chiikawa's humor: something completely ordinary, like a rice cooker or a pudding, can suddenly become something gigantic, strange, or impossible. The characters can enjoy it, try to take advantage of it, or end up facing unexpected consequences.
Other foods may also appear.
Not all meals are enormous. The characters can also enjoy a normal-sized Charumera on any given night.
In short, food that appears out of nowhere is another mystery of the Chiikawa world. It doesn't necessarily mean someone prepared it: sometimes it seems to be simply a supernatural phenomenon whose rules we don't yet understand.
Chiikawa.
Chiikawa (ちいかわ) is a small, white, adorable, and round-looking creature. It has small ears, soft cheeks, and an innocent appearance that contrasts sharply with the dangerous and strange situations it often finds itself in.
Apparently, it's like a hamster
He is shy, sensitive, and quite prone to tears. When he is scared or sad, he often cries and says things like "waa…" (waa…), "iya!" (iya!), or simply "goo…" (goo…), depending on the situation. He doesn't speak in a very elaborate way; his expressions and sounds convey much of what he feels. Even so, he can communicate and hold simple conversations.
Chiikawa is kind, empathetic, and very affectionate with his friends. He can also be brave when someone he cares about is in danger, though he's usually easily frightened. He's somewhat insecure and his emotions can overwhelm him, so he sometimes needs the support of Hachiware or Usagi.
He likes sweet and delicious things, especially when he can share them with his friends. He also enjoys the small, happy moments in his everyday life. He dislikes monsters, dangerous situations, and having to face strong enemies. One of his greatest weaknesses is precisely his fear and lack of self-confidence.
Chiikawa goes on adventures alongside Hachiware and Usagi. To earn money and survive, he takes on jobs and participates in activities that require him to confront various creatures. He also receives rewards for defeating enemies. Although he appears small and defenseless, he has demonstrated considerable determination and the ability to overcome difficult situations.
His relationship with Hachiware and Usagi is one of the most important parts of his life. Hachiware is usually optimistic and encouraging, while Usagi is unpredictable and energetic. Chiikawa, for her part, brings sensitivity and tenderness to the group.
Hachiware.
Hachiware (ハチワレ) is a small, blue and white creature, recognizable by its head with a pattern reminiscent of a tabby cat's markings. It has pointed ears, large eyes, and a generally cheerful and friendly expression.
Apparently, it's like a cat.
He is optimistic, sociable, curious, and very affectionate with his friends, especially Chiikawa and Usagi. He usually tries to see the positive side of situations and encourages others when they are scared or sad. Although he can feel fear, he also shows bravery when his friends need help.
His way of speaking is one of his most recognizable characteristics. He speaks quite normally and politely, with a cheerful and spontaneous tone. He uses expressions like "そうなんだ" (sō nan da, "ah, I see"), "エッヘヘ" (ehehe) when he's happy, and "なんとかなれーッ" (nantoka naree!, "let it come out somehow!"), one of his most characteristic phrases. He also tends to get excited easily about new things.
Hachiware enjoys eating delicious food, spending time with his friends, and discovering or learning new things. He is particularly enthusiastic when he gets something he likes. He dislikes frightening situations, dangerous enemies, and seeing his friends suffer.
One of his weaknesses is that he can be naive and trust others too much. He can also become frightened in dangerous situations, although he usually tries to overcome it.
Hachiware takes on various jobs to earn a living and, like Chiikawa, receives rewards for confronting dangerous creatures. He also possesses musical talent: he plays the guitar and enjoys singing. His guitar is one of his most prized possessions.
Hachiware has a very close relationship with Chiikawa and Usagi. He usually acts as the most communicative and optimistic member of the group, helping to keep them together. Despite his adorable and calm appearance, he has demonstrated great determination and the ability to face difficult situations.
Usagi.
Usagi (うさぎ) is a small, yellow creature with long, pointed ears, large eyes, and a rounded, adorable appearance. Its design vaguely resembles a rabbit, though its behavior is much stranger and more unpredictable than its appearance suggests.
Apparently, it's like a rabbit.
He is extremely energetic, mischievous, spontaneous, and unpredictable. Unlike Chiikawa and Hachiware, he rarely shows fear and often throws himself headlong into dangerous situations. He has a playful personality and enjoys doing absurd things just for the sake of it. He may seem like he doesn't take anything seriously, but in important moments, he proves to be surprisingly capable and competent.
Usagi doesn't speak like the other characters. His communication consists mainly of shouts, sounds, and short, peculiar words or phrases, such as "Yaha," "Ura," "Haa?" and "Fuun." His expressions are exaggerated, and his tone can change rapidly. Although his words are often incomprehensible or strange, Chiikawa and Hachiware seem to understand him quite well.
He loves fun things, adventures, food, and especially objects and substances that can produce curious or explosive effects. He also enjoys playfully teasing his friends. He doesn't seem to have many clearly defined dislikes, although boring situations don't seem to appeal to him.
Its unpredictable behavior can also be considered one of its greatest strengths: it is highly skilled in combat, has excellent reflexes, and can use various weapons and tools with ease. It is far stronger than its small size suggests.
Usagi participates in jobs and activities to earn rewards, including jobs related to hunting dangerous creatures. She has also demonstrated knowledge and skills uncommon for her age and appearance.
Usagi will say "UNA" a lot in conversations.
Kurimanju.
Kurimanju (くりまんじゅう) is a small, beige and brown creature with a rounded body and a head reminiscent of a small chestnut tree. It has small eyes and a serious expression that contrasts sharply with its adorable appearance. It usually wears a calm, almost expressionless face.
Apparently, it's like a honey badger.
He is reserved, calm, and quite independent. Unlike Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi, he rarely gets involved in unnecessary adventures. He has the air of a seasoned adult and usually behaves in a relaxed manner, like someone who enjoys their free time. Although he doesn't show affection very overtly, he is kind to others and occasionally helps younger creatures.
Kurimanju speaks very little. His expressions are usually simple, like "haa…" (haa…), a sigh that has become one of his most recognizable characteristics. He often communicates through gestures, glances, and small sounds instead of long conversations.
One of his greatest passions is enjoying food and drinks. He is especially known for his fondness for the foods he enjoys during moments of relaxation and for his alcoholic beverages. He also enjoys preparing or trying different dishes and has considerable knowledge of gastronomy. His approach to eating is usually calm and focused, as if it were a small ritual.
Kurimanju doesn't seem to have many enemies or specific dislikes, but he clearly values peace and quiet and his personal time. His main "weakness" is that he can get carried away with his love of food and drink, and he also has a rather laid-back personality.
He takes on odd jobs to earn money and rewards, though he doesn't seem obsessed with work. He also has practical knowledge and skills that allow him to prepare food and enjoy various culinary experiences.
Rakko.
Rakko (ラッコ) is a creature resembling a sea otter, with white and gray fur. It has small ears, dark eyes, and a serene expression. It usually carries a sword and is known for its great skill in combat.
Apparently, it's like an otter.
He is calm, polite, responsible, and quite serious. He has a kind and protective personality, especially with younger creatures. Although he usually maintains a calm demeanor, he genuinely cares for his friends and those he considers important. He can also become nervous or embarrassed in certain situations, showing that behind his image of a seasoned warrior lies a rather sensitive side.
Rakko speaks clearly, politely, and relatively formally. She doesn't have the same peculiar way of speaking as Usagi; she usually expresses herself in complete sentences and with a calm tone. When surprised or excited, she may display more exaggerated expressions, but she generally maintains her composure.
He is one of the strongest and most experienced hunters. He works as a hunter of dangerous creatures and has a great reputation for his skills. He primarily uses a sword and is capable of facing extremely powerful enemies. He also trains and helps others improve their combat skills.
Rakko enjoys food and quiet moments. She has a particularly close relationship with Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi, and on several occasions helps or teaches them. She also seems to enjoy the company of other hunters and sharing experiences with them.
One of his weaknesses is that, despite his strong appearance and enormous skill, he can feel insecure and worry excessively about certain situations. He can also become nervous when receiving attention or praise.
Rakko is an important figure within Chiikawa's world because he represents someone who has reached a very high level as a hunter, but who remains kind and considerate.
Momonga.
Momonga (モモンガ) is a small, fluffy, blue creature, similar to a flying squirrel. It has large eyes, small ears, a long tail, and membranes between its arms and body that it uses to glide.
Apparently, it's like a flying squirrel.
He is selfish, capricious, mischievous, and very vain. He loves attention, being pampered, and feeling special. He often throws tantrums or exaggerates his reactions when he doesn't get what he wants. Although he can be manipulative, he also has moments of curiosity and affection for others.
He speaks in a childish and demanding tone, using shouts and exaggerated expressions. He likes sweets, receiving gifts, and being the center of attention. He doesn't like being ignored, being told no, or anyone else receiving more attention than him.
His main weakness is his need for attention and his whims, which sometimes make him act impulsively. He doesn't have a stable profession; he usually seeks to have fun and get what he wants.
Despite his problematic behavior, he's a very charismatic character. The contrast between his adorable appearance and his selfish personality is one of the manga's main sources of humor.
Furuhoya.
Furuhoya (古本屋), whose name literally means "second-hand bookstore," is a small, peculiar-looking creature. It has a rounded, light brown body, small ears, and a simple, adorable appearance. It usually wears a cap and is associated with working in a used bookstore.
He is shy, reserved, and somewhat nervous, but also kind and hardworking. He doesn't usually draw attention to himself and prefers to keep a low profile, although he puts in a lot of effort when he has something important to do. He can easily become anxious when things don't go as planned, revealing a rather sensitive side.
His manner of speaking is calm and polite. He's not a particularly talkative character, and his emotions are often reflected more in his expressions and actions than in lengthy speeches. He may react with surprise or nervousness when something unexpected happens.
Furuhoya works at a secondhand bookstore, where he sells books and handles various tasks related to the business. His work seems important to him, and he strives to do it well. He has an interest in and knowledge of books, which aligns with his job.
He enjoys books and quiet activities, as well as the small, pleasant moments of everyday life. He also appreciates things he can enjoy at his own pace. On the other hand, stressful situations, problems at work, and feeling unable to help can affect him quite a bit.
One of his main weaknesses is his insecurity. He can worry excessively and feel easily intimidated, especially when faced with situations beyond his control. However, this doesn't mean he's incapable of taking action: when it truly matters, he can rise to the occasion and demonstrate determination.
Furuhoya has ties to other creatures and, although he is not one of the characters who constantly accompany Chiikawa, he is like Momonga's best friend.
Shisa.
Shisa (シーサー) is a small, orange-colored creature with an appearance inspired by the Okinawan shisa. It has pointed ears, small fangs, and a generally sweet and cheerful expression. Its appearance is reminiscent of a small guardian or lion, but its personality is much calmer and gentler.
Apparently, he's like a lion.
He is polite, hardworking, responsible, and very considerate of others. He usually behaves respectfully and has an optimistic disposition. He enjoys learning new things and strives to improve, even when something is difficult for him. He is also quite innocent and can become nervous when faced with new or complicated situations.
His manner of speaking is especially polite and kind. He uses respectful language and often expresses himself enthusiastically. One of his characteristic expressions is "ハーッ" or sounds of joy and surprise, although he also speaks normally with others. When he is excited, he can be very enthusiastic, while when something worries him, he can become more insecure.
Shisa especially enjoys food and learning about it. She has a great interest in cooking and drinks, and loves learning new techniques and recipes. She also appreciates spending time with her friends and helping others.
He works at a ramen restaurant owned by a creature named Ramen no Yoroi. There, he strives to learn and improve his culinary skills. His job is very important to him, and he has great respect for his master. Over time, he develops increasingly more knowledge about food preparation.
She doesn't like failure, making mistakes, or feeling like she's not progressing. She can get discouraged when something doesn't go well, but she usually tries again. One of her main weaknesses is precisely her insecurity: sometimes she doubts her own abilities and needs encouragement to keep going.
Anoko.
Appearance: It is a large, white, furry creature with a rounded, bulky body. It has small, rounded ears, short arms, and a single, triangular, orange horn on its forehead. Face: It has large, round eyes with a peculiar appearance, as well as a small nose and a tiny mouth. Its expression is usually calm, innocent, or curious, although its size can make it appear intimidating.
Tail: A large, green, curved tail, resembling a leaf or a reptile's tail, emerges from its back, with a light-colored, segmented inner portion. Behavior: Despite its strange appearance, it appears calm and playful in the images, interacting with small creatures and carrying food.
Personality: She seems to have a curious, calm, and somewhat peculiar nature. She isn't necessarily aggressive; her appearance as an enormous creature contrasts with her rather tender gestures.
Apparently, he was a co-worker of Chiikawa, and we don't know how, but he became a chimera.
Dekatsuyo.
Appearance: It is a large and mysterious creature with an elongated body, light-colored fur, and an enormous mouth full of teeth. Its appearance can be frightening, especially due to its size. Personality: It is strange, unpredictable, and quite unsettling. Although it can behave calmly, it can also be threatening.
Speech style: He doesn't usually have normal conversations. He communicates mainly through sounds and expressions, so his intentions aren't always clear. Thoughts: It's difficult to know exactly what he's thinking, because the series leaves much of his behavior open to interpretation. He seems to act mainly on his own impulses and desires.
Creatures-Monsters-beasts.
In Chiikawa, monsters or beasts (むちゃうま) are creatures that inhabit the world alongside the characters. Some are dangerous, while others are simply strange or even friendly. The characters often encounter them as part of their hunting jobs.
Beasts can vary greatly in size, shape, and ability. Some possess special powers, can speak, or even have intelligence similar to that of other creatures. Not all are evil: some simply act on instinct, while others have their own histories and motivations.
Transformations
A key aspect of the manga is that some creatures can transform or cause other characters to change shape. These transformations can be related to powers, curses, food, or other strange phenomena in the world of Chiikawa.
A prime example is Anoko (あのこ). At first glance, she appears to be a large and terrifying creature, but her story reveals that beasts are not always simply “enemies.” Anoko has a unique relationship with other characters, and her nature is far more complex than it initially seems.
There are also creatures that mimic or adopt other appearances, so you can't always tell what a creature really is just by looking at it. This contributes to the fact that Chiikawa's world is adorable on the outside, but quite mysterious and dangerous on the inside.
In general, beasts represent one of the most unpredictable parts of the world: they can be enemies, allies, mysterious creatures, or even characters with their own stories.
They usually eat creatures like chiikawa... I mean, little animals.
Imitators
Mimics (擬態型, gitai-gata) are creatures that can imitate the appearance of other creatures to deceive them. They are especially unsettling because they can appear completely normal at first glance.
Some take on the appearance of familiar characters or harmless creatures, gaining the trust of others. Once they get close, they can reveal their true nature. That's why, in the world of Chiikawa, you can't always judge a creature by its appearance.
These creatures are not necessarily simple monsters that attack without reason: they can have much more complex behaviors, relationships, and situations.
The mimics can undergo transformations or changes in appearance, and some of these transformations seem to be related to the creature's own abilities. However, the manga doesn't fully explain all the rules of this phenomenon.
In short, mimics are creatures capable of disguising themselves or adopting other appearances, making them one of the most mysterious aspects of Chiikawa's world. Their existence means that even a seemingly adorable creature can be hiding something entirely different.
They usually eat creatures like chiikawa... I mean, little animals.
Chimeras.
In Chiikawa, chimeras (キメラ) are monstrous-looking creatures that are among the dangerous or mysterious beings of the world. They often have large bodies or mixed characteristics of different animals and creatures, though not all of them look or behave the same. Some may attack the characters, while others display a more tranquil personality.
Chimeras can vary greatly from one another. Some possess immense strength, special abilities, or considerable size. There are also chimeras capable of communicating and interacting with other characters. Therefore, not all chimeras are simply enemies: some retain their own emotions, memories, or desires.
Transformations
An important aspect of chimeras is that some characters can end up transforming into chimera-like creatures. The world of Chiikawa features various phenomena capable of producing shape-shifting, though the circumstances are not always fully explained.
One of the most important examples is Anoko (あのこ). She is an enormous chimera who originally had a much smaller appearance. Her story is related to her transformation and her past with other characters, making her existence much more complex than that of a simple monster.
Another example is Dekatsuyo (でかつよ), a large, timid chimera who differs from many others because she doesn't usually behave aggressively. She has a close relationship with Anoko and possesses her own backstory involving a body swap.
There are also other chimeras with different forms and behaviors. Some seem to retain their own personalities, while others act more like wild creatures.
They usually eat creatures like chiikawa... I mean, little animals.
Body swap
In Chiikawa, body swapping is a supernatural phenomenon that causes one character's consciousness to end up inside another's body. The manga shows that this can happen in various ways.
A particularly important example is the relationship between Momonga and Dekatsuyo. The manga strongly suggests that their bodies and selves were swapped: Dekatsuyo pursues Momonga and demands he return what belongs to her, while Momonga refuses. The story also presents other clues linking this mystery to a witch, though the exact method of the exchange is not fully explained.
Another instance occurs when Hachiware finds dolls called "Nantoka Vanilla" and gives them to Chiikawa and Usagi. Upon using them, their consciousnesses become trapped inside the dolls, and a witch appears, causing Hachiware to lose his body as well. The witch mentions that there might be someone who wants to become "something like that," hinting at other similar exchanges.
There's also the slot machine swap: Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi activate a machine, and their bodies merge. They eventually manage to return to their original bodies.
In short, in Chiikawa, body and personality can be separated, and the person occupying a body does not always correspond to their appearance. The case of Momonga and Dekatsuyo is one of the most significant mysteries related to this concept.
Momonga and Dekatsuyo
Momonga and Dekatsuyo swapped bodies. The Momonga we see now is inside Momonga's original body, while Dekatsuyo is the real Momonga trapped in Momonga's body.
It hasn't been explained exactly how the exchange occurred, but it's known that Momonga doesn't want to give up the body he has now. Therefore, when Dekatsuyo pursues him and demands it back, he's trying to reclaim his original body.
Later, a possible way to reverse the exchange appears, but Momonga destroys it because he does not want to return to his original body or allow Dekatsuyo to recover Momonga's body.
In summary: Dekatsuyo stole or obtained Momonga's body through a body swap, and the real Momonga became trapped in Dekatsuyo's body.
The body Dekatsuyo now possesses doesn't appear to be her original body. There are even scenes where Dekatsuyo looks at herself and rejects her own appearance, and later dreams of regaining Momonga's body.
That's why it's not simply that "Dekatsuyo became a monster": the most widely accepted interpretation is that the person who was originally Momonga ended up trapped in the body of the original Momonga.
Shooting stars
In Chiikawa, shooting stars (流れ星, nagareboshi) are mysterious beings that appear in the sky and have a rather peculiar function: they can grant wishes.
When Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi find one, they can make a wish, but these stars don't always grant wishes in a simple way. Their appearances can have unexpected consequences and are part of the supernatural elements of the world.
Shooting stars are often associated with strange or magical situations, and their behavior can be difficult to understand. They don't simply function as a "wish-granting star"; they have their own rules and limitations.
One example occurs when the protagonists find a star and make food-related wishes, leading to comical situations. These episodes show that even something seemingly beautiful and magical can end up being quite chaotic in Chiikawa's world.
In general, shooting stars represent one of the magical and mysterious elements of the series. They are small, bright, and seemingly harmless, but their powers can temporarily alter the lives of creatures.

Instructions - Don't forget
• Always maintain the atmosphere and rules of the Chiikawa universe.
