The Hunter Exam *is an annual test required to earn a Hunter's license and become a member of the Hunters' Association.

What is this exam?

It is an extremely difficult and dangerous test: statistically, only about 1 in 10,000 candidates passes, and deaths during the exam are not uncommon. The exam takes place in a new location every year, and the tasks vary—on average, it consists of 5-6 stages.

Before the main exam, unofficial preliminary screenings are often held: Association scouts weed out obviously unsuitable candidates. For example, those who fail a basic test (such as surviving a storm on a ship) may simply not be allowed to take the exam.

During the exam itself, examiners—experienced Hunters—monitor the participants. Each candidate is given a badge with a number and a built-in transmitter, allowing the committee to track their location. They are assessed not only on their performance on tasks but also on their personal qualities: physical abilities (strength, agility, endurance), mental acuity (flexibility of thought, creativity), and overall impression (potential as a Hunter).

Different exam seasons feature different types of tests—for example:

• testing endurance and skills for navigating difficult terrain;
  *encounters with dangerous animals or creatures, where both courage and analytical thinking are important;
• logical problems, searching for traps, testing intuition;
  *tasks for competition and hunting in a confined space;
• final one-on-one duels.

What do those who pass the exam receive?

The main prize is the Hunter's License *. It grants its owner significant privileges:

• Free access to most public services *(approximately 95% of organizations provide services free of charge, the rest at a significant discount), with service provided at first-class standards.
• Freedom of movement *: Hunters are allowed to enter approximately 90% of countries with restricted access and 75% of areas closed to the general public.
• Special legal status

One-Star Hunters are recognized experts in a specific field or those who have completed significant assignments. One star grants access to the Association's restricted resources and high-risk assignments. Obtaining one is not easy: you must either have specific achievements or pass a separate certification process. Examples: many specialized professionals (e.g., Hunter-physicians and researchers) start with one star for their contributions to their field.

Two-Star Hunter is a rank awarded for outstanding service and leadership of major operations. A Two-Star Hunter is considered a significant authority within the Association, capable of overseeing projects, training, and participating in high-level decision-making. This is the level of a recognized leader and expert who has repeatedly proven their worth not only through personal strength but also through their performance in complex missions.

Three-Star Hunters are the Association's elite. This rank is awarded for exceptional achievements that significantly impact the world and Hunter politics, or for breakthroughs in research on the Dark Continent and other high-risk zones. Three-Star Hunters are very few in number; they effectively shape the Association's strategic direction.

Important additional techniques

• En (円, "circle") - expands the aura into a sphere around oneself to sense everything within it. Allows one to detect enemies, but lacks dense defense.

• Gyo (凝, "concentration") - strengthening the aura on a specific part of the body (for example, on the eyes, in order to see someone else's aura).

• Shu (周, "coverage") - spreading the effect of Gyo to an object in the hands to strengthen a weapon or tool.

• Ken (堅, "strength") - uniform strengthening of the entire body surface for defense and attack.

• Ryu (流, "flow") - dynamic redistribution of strengthening zones between attack and defense.

Key concepts

• Shoko is the “gate” of the aura: one must learn to consciously open and close them in order to control the flow of Nen.

• MUN (Max Ora Portion) - the maximum volume of aura that the user is able to generate.

• RUN (Potential Ora Portion) is the real limit of one-time emission of aura.

Considering you were previously interested in Nen, Kurapika, and his Chain of Justice, it's worth noting: Chain of Justice is a manifestation of the Hatsu-type "Materialization," and its special effects (such as instant death for Spider members) are an example of how abilities in Hunter x Hunter often have strict conditions and limitations.

Basic Nen Techniques (4 Main)

• Ten (纏, "to envelop") – holds the aura within the body, preventing it from dissipating. This is basic defense and the foundation for other techniques.

• Zetsu (絕, "to cease") - completely stops the emission of aura. Useful for hiding from Nen sensors and conserving strength, but makes the user vulnerable.

• Ren (練, "to train/strengthen") – dramatically increases the production of aura around the body. Grants great physical strength and strong defense, but requires control, otherwise one can quickly become exhausted.

• Hatsu (發, "to release") is the individual application of aura: it is through Hatsu that the unique abilities of characters are created.

Types of Hatsu (6 categories)

Hatsu type is determined using the "glass of water and leaf test." It reveals the user's natural inclination:

• Enhancement (Kyoka) - increases physical parameters: striking power, speed, regeneration. Example: Gon Freecss.

• Transformation (Hank) - changes the properties of the aura (turns it into electricity, makes it sticky, etc.). Example: Killua Zoldyck (electricity), Hisoka (elastic/sticky aura).

• Emission (Hoshu) - allows one to separate aura from the body and use it remotely. Example: Illumi Zoldyck.

• Manipulation (Sosa) – control over objects and living beings. Example: Shalnark (Nen-phone).

• Materialization (Genjutsu) - the creation of physical objects from aura. Example: Kurapika (Chain of Judgment).

• Specialization (Tokushin) - unique abilities that don't fit into other categories. Example: Kuroro Lucifer (ability theft).

Meteor City is essentially a gigantic, populated landfill. Various countries dump not only waste here, but also people rejected by society: outcasts, abandoned children. Because of this, Meteor City has become a haven for people of all races and nationalities. Meteor City is closely tied to one of the key storylines—the history of the Phantom Troupe (also known as the Spiders). Most of the current members of the troupe were either born here or abandoned as infants before their existence was officially acknowledged.

Feitan Portor is a short (around 155–156 cm), lean but muscular man with medium-length, sleek black hair and gray eyes; he has pale skin and Asian-inspired eyes. He wears dark, baggy clothing, mostly black—details like his collar or arafatka often feature a skull, and his lower face is often hidden by a bandana. Feitan has a tattoo of a spider with the number 2 on its abdomen—his Phantom Troupe number. When he uses the "Vestment of Pain" ability and becomes Pain Packer, he dons a jacket with three inverted crosses (the Cross of Saint Peter) on the front.

Feitan Portor is a member of the Phantom Troupe (Genei Ryodan). He serves as the group's interrogator and is considered highly skilled in the art of torture.
Some of the methods and features that Feitan uses in torture:
Inflicting physical pain. He uses various methods to extract information or exact revenge. For example, Feitan tortured an auctioneer, demanding information about how one of the "Shadow Beasts" named Owl broke into the vault and moved the items.
Maniacal Laughter and Taunting: While his opponent is in agony, Feitan can laugh and mock them.
Planning specific actions. For example, he planned to break his fingers and then tear off his nails. Feitan is sadistic and enjoys inflicting pain. He doesn't kill out of pity, preferring to let his opponent fight back, even if they don't have a chance.

(Chrollo Lucifer (No. 0) is the founder and permanent leader of the troupe. His Nen ability allows him to steal other people's abilities and use them from a special book.

Nobunaga Hazama (No. 1) is a skilled swordsman and one of the founders. He is extremely loyal to the troupe and its leader.

Feitan Porter (#2) is a master of torture and a heat-manipulating fighter, capable of creating searing flames from collected pain and damage.

Machi Komatsine (No. 3) is a calm and serious member who uses Nen to create strong threads from needles. These threads can bind enemies and stitch wounds.

Kalluto Zoldyck (No. 4) is the current bearer of the number 4. He manipulates paper petals that can attack or serve as a spy.

Phinks Magcube (#5) is a fiery hand-to-hand combatant whose ability greatly increases the power of his attacks.

Franklin Bordeaux (No. 7) - Creates powerful bullets from Nen that can penetrate almost any defense.

Shizuku Murasaki (No. 8) is a carefree girl who operates a vacuum cleaner that can suck up almost anything except living things.

Bonolenov Ndongo (No. 10) is a proud and eccentric fighter who uses music and sound waves as weapons.

Hisoka Morow (No. 4) - He is a very strong magician and always smiling.

Uvogin (No. 11) was an incredibly strong and hot-tempered fighter who possessed colossal physical power.

Pakunoda (No. 9) - could read and transmit memories through touch.

Kortopi (No. 12) was a talented magician and illusionist who could create exact copies of objects.

Shalnark (No. 6) - could control people using an antenna device)

(Genei Ryodan (aka "The Phantom Troupe" or "Spiders") is a criminal organization whose members both kill and steal - this is part of their image and activities.

How they kill

Ryodan members are powerful fighters who wield Nen and often act with extreme brutality: Stealing is one of Ryodan's main specialties:

Their leader, Kuroro Lucifer (No. 0), has the ability to steal others' Nen abilities, which in itself can be considered "stealing" power.

The group is known for taking on contracts to steal rare and valuable items, often operating in wealthy cities like Yorkshire.

Ryodan's philosophy is partly based on its opposition to Meteor City (the City of Fallen Stars): where people "accept" everything the outside world has discarded, Ryodan, on the contrary, actively "takes" what belongs to others. Genei Ryodan (literally, "Phantom Troupe/Brigade") is a 13-member mercenary criminal organization. It is also called the "Phantom Troupe" or simply "Spider" due to its symbol. Each member has a tattoo of a twelve-legged spider, along with a serial number on their abdomen.

Feitan Portor is a member of the Genei Ryodan (Phantom Troupe), number 2 in the group. He is one of the gang's founders and a very secretive and dangerous fighter.

Character and role in the troupe
Feitan has a reputation as the group's chief torturer and interrogator: he excels at extracting information, and his methods are brutal. At the same time, he is fiercely loyal to the Spiders and their leader, Chrollo Lucifer. Despite his dark nature, he maintains a calm demeanor with his comrades, even possessing a touch of dark humor.

Appearance and details
Short (around 156 cm), composed, he moves almost like a ninja. He often carries an umbrella, concealing the blade of a shikomizue. Visually, he is easily recognizable by his reserved yet menacing demeanor.

Nan and abilities
Nen Feitan's type is transmutation, but he also uses elements of conjugation and radiation.

His main technique is “Rising Sun”:

Feitan accumulates damage that is dealt to him.

Then releases it in the form of a miniature sun, which burns enemies with a force proportional to the damage received.
