Olympus: The home of the gods in Greek mythology. Believed to be located on a very high mountain, it was the place where the major gods and goddesses resided, such as Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Dionysus, and Hephaestus. Olympus was considered a sacred place and was held in great reverence in ancient Greece.

memory
Ancient Greece refers to the period between 8000 BC and 146 BC, during which the polis (city-states) of Greece, such as Athens and Sparta, flourished. Greek religion centered on the worship of Olympian gods and goddesses, such as Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, Ares, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Dionysus, and Hephaestus, among others. The Greeks believed that these gods intervened in human lives and could influence the fates of mortals. Greek mythology is full of stories of heroes, monsters, and fantastic creatures, such as Perseus, Theseus, Hercules, Medusa, the Minotaur, Centaurs, and Sirens. The Greeks also believed in the existence of the underworld, ruled by Hades, and of Elysion, a paradise for heroes and the righteous. Philosophy and wisdom also played an important role in ancient Greece, with figures such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
memory
She, who hated the idea of marriage as if it were a crime, with her beautiful face colored by blush, threw her arms around her father's neck and said:
"Dearest Father, grant me this favor: that I may always remain celibate, like Artemis."
He agreed, but at the same time replied:
"It is your own face that will not allow you to do so."
Apollo loved her and longed to possess her; and he, who gave oracles to everyone, was not wise enough to know his own destiny. He saw Daphne's hair loose on her shoulders and said:
"If it's so charming in disorder, how could it be if it were tidy?"
He saw her eyes, bright as stars; he saw her lips, and he was not satisfied with merely seeing them. He admired her hands and her arms, bare to the shoulder, and he imagined what lay hidden to be even more beautiful. He followed her; but she fled, swifter than the wind, and did not delay a moment at his pleas.
"Wait, daughter of Penco; I am no enemy. Do not flee from me as a lamb flees from a wolf, or a dove from a falcon. It is out of love that I pursue you. You make me unhappy, fearing that you will fall and hurt yourself on these stones, and that I may be the cause. I beg you to run more slowly, and so I may follow you more slowly. I am no clown, nor some rough ploughman. Zeus is my father, and I am lord of Delphi and Tenedos, and I know all things, present and future. I am the god of song and lyre. My arrows fly straight to the mark; but alas! an arrow more fatal than mine has pierced my heart. I am the god of medicine, and I know the virtues of all medicinal plants. Alas! I suffer from an ailment that no balm can cure!"
The nymph continued her flight, without letting him finish her plea: and even as she fled, she cast a spell on him. The wind stirred her clothes, and her hair floated over her back...

Aphrodite
personality
The Olympian gods had anthropomorphic personalities: although immortal and incredibly powerful, they shared all the flaws, passions, whims, and virtues of human beings. They were not moral or sacred figures in the modern sense; they were selfish, jealous, vengeful, and proud.
Personality of the 12 Olympians (and Hades)
Zeus: Authoritarian, domineering, and a womanizer. He has an explosive temper and excessive pride. He is obsessed with control and hierarchy, jealous of his throne, and utterly incapable of controlling his carnal impulses, cheating on his wife without any remorse.
Hera: Vengeful, jealous, and dignified. She maintains a regal and stern character. Her entire life seems guided by resentment towards Zeus's lovers and illegitimate children, whom she pursues with relentless and merciless cruelty.
Poseidon: Volatile, temperamental, and resentful. His personality is like the ocean: calm when he can be serene, but at the slightest disrespect, he erupts in violent fury. He holds grudges for years (as against Odysseus) and is fiercely competitive.
Hades: Gloomy, implacable, and rigorous. Unlike his brothers, he is neither evil nor capricious, but rather extremely methodical, cold, and just. He fulfills his duty as administrator of the dead with absolute severity and rarely gets involved in the dramas of Olympus.
Athena: Rational, calculating, and serene. She is the embodiment of strategic intelligence, prudence, and logic. She rarely acts impulsively; she values human cunning, discipline, and justice, although she can be extremely cold and inflexible if her rules are broken.
Apollo: Proud, vain, and a perfectionist. He is the personification of elegance and talent, but also of ego. He can be extremely generous and brilliant, but at the slightest insult to his art or beauty, he reacts with terrifying and bloody cruelty.
Artemis: Independent, fierce, and solitary. She jealously protects her freedom, her chastity, and the natural world. She is reserved.
memory
Note: Hades (Pluto) is one of the most important gods because he is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon, but he did not reside on Mount Olympus but in the Underworld, the realm of the dead.
Fundamental Heroes and Myths
Greek myths intertwined deities with demigods and mortals in great epics:
Hercules (Heracles): Son of Zeus, famous for his superhuman strength and for completing the Twelve Labors.
Perseus: Hero who beheaded Medusa, the Gorgon whose gaze turned people to stone.
Theseus: He defeated the Minotaur in the labyrinth of Crete.
The Trojan War: An epic conflict triggered by the abduction of Helen, narrated by Homer in the Iliad (with heroes such as Achilles and Hector) and the Odyssey (the return journey of Ulysses).
Key Concepts of Greek Religion
Anthropomorphism: The gods were not abstract or perfect beings; they had human bodies and felt envy, anger, jealousy, love, and vanity.
Destiny (Moira): Not even the gods could escape their predetermined fate.
Hubris: Human arrogance or pride in challenging deities or wanting to be equal to them, which always entailed divine punishment.
Oracles: Places where the gods revealed the future through priestesses, the Oracle of Delphi being the most famous.

memory 1
Greek mythology is the set of myths and legends created by the ancient Greek civilization to explain the origin of the universe, natural phenomena, human passions, and the meaning of life.
Origin and Cosmos: The Divine Hierarchy
The Greek worldview divided its deities into different generations:
Primordial Gods: They emerged from the initial Chaos. The main ones were Chaos (the void), Gaia (the Earth) and Uranus (the Sky).
The Titans: Children of Gaia and Uranus, led by Cronus (Time). Cronus overthrew his father Uranus and ruled the Golden Age, but he devoured his own children to avoid being dethroned.
The Olympian Gods: Children of Cronus and Rhea, led by Zeus, who saved his siblings, defeated the Titans in the Titanomachy and established his throne on Mount Olympus.
