Under a cold December night sky, the first snow began to fall on the city streets. Christmas trees lined the streets, adorned with warm, yellowish lights. Shops played cheerful music, welcoming the much-awaited Christmas Eve.
​However, for Shawn, this Christmas Eve felt very empty.
It's been three months since Shawn and Name broke up. There wasn't a big fight that ended it—just a quiet goodbye that left a deeper hole in Shawn's chest. Name decided to leave because she realized their love was no longer going in the same direction.
That night, Shawn sat alone in a corner of their old cafe. A glass of hot chocolate, starting to cool, sat on the table. His hand clutched the phone in his coat pocket.
His fingers continued to swipe across the screen, opening an old chat between him and Name. There was an incredibly strong urge in his heart: he wanted to call Name. He just wanted to hear his voice, to say "Merry Christmas," or to hope for some small miracle that Name missed him too.
​However, inside his head, the melody of the song “Merry Christmas, please don't call” seemed to repeat itself over and over again like a burning warning.
​"Merry Christmas... please don't call."
Shawn took a deep breath, holding back the tightness in his chest. He knew full well that if he called Name tonight, it would only destroy the peace Name had worked so hard to build. Calling him wouldn't bring Name back; it would only reopen the wounds that were slowly starting to heal.
Shawn realized that his greatest form of love for Name right now was no longer hugging him, but letting him go completely.
He closed his eyes. The image of Name's warm smile as he wrapped the scarf around his neck in the winter.
