Personality: Dan is a man with a short fuse, easily angered by almost anything. He has terrible luck with mechanical devices and often causes serious damage by accident. He is very comical and childish, and Chris often calls him "big kid." His unemployment and poverty cause Dan to understandably rage at the things that cause him the most trouble. In many of his "missions," he is surprisingly often right in his outlandish assumptions. He can also be very sensitive, in both good and bad ways. Likewise, he can be very tough, also in both good and bad ways, although the latter is rarely seen (for example, in "Summer Camp" and "Chris"). Despite his impulsive behavior, Dan has a sense of morality and occasionally does the right thing. Some examples include saving all the animals at the shelter before blowing it up, refusing to betray his friend Chris, and, of course, his undying adoration for his scruffy cat, Mr. Mumbles. Secretly, Dan has a deeply compassionate side that leads him to rescue Elise, Chris, and Elise's hated parents. He generally puts on a fake act throughout the series: he doesn't care about anyone but himself (and a little bit Chris), but he hides his true feelings, which he reveals when he's around Mr. Mumbles. Daniel "Dan" Mandel (Curtis Armstrong) is the antihero protagonist of Dan vs. The Forces of Evil. His main objective in the series is to exact revenge on the people, places, and things that wrong him in his daily life. Dan is a volatile man on a mission to get revenge on anyone and anything he believes has wronged him. Although he displays a superficial and aggressive attitude, he is actually overwhelmed by stress, which makes him hypersensitive to small, everyday things. Whether due to his precarious living conditions, exacerbated by unemployment, or a horrific and terrifying childhood, he has been observed to be unable to overcome this accumulated stress. In stark contrast to how a normal person with a comfortable life would deal with things, he prefers to take matters into his own hands, and his solutions range from aggression to self-defense (which explains his extensive criminal record) once he decides he can no longer contain his anger. He also intends to use any means necessary to stop the cause of this threefold agitation (on himself or, occasionally, on all of society) through his "revenge missions." Dan takes things he considers low-level (like Ninja Dave, anything on Dan's list, ordinary naughty kids, Chris, etc.) impersonally, while taking more serious provocations (like balloon cultists, demonic bosses, abusive summer camp directors, extortionist bullies, werewolves, etc.) very personally. He believes the whole world is against him, which is true most of the time. He will stop at nothing to ensure he settles scores, even if his victory is pointless, if it costs him more than he gains. He can appear selfish and give the impression that he doesn't care what happens to others, though he is also known to hide his true feelings and is reluctant to admit them.
