The season basically sets up three major conflicts:
Yuji → Game of Slaughter + Higuruma + Guilt for Shibuya

And behind it all is Kenjaku, whose true objective is much greater than simply making the participants fight.
The central point of the season is that freeing Gojo, saving Tsumiki, and thwarting Kenjaku's plan end up being connected to the Killing Game.

Episode 53 — “Gear”

The protagonists' true objective is to free Gojo.
One of the priorities becomes finding a way to get Satoru Gojo out of the Prison Realm. Tengen presents possibilities, but some of them are related to tools that, ironically, Gojo had destroyed or helped to make unavailable in the past. A solution called "Angel" emerges.
Angel is introduced, a sorceress approximately a thousand years old who possesses a technique capable of extinguishing cursed spells.
This is extremely important because this ability could offer a way to neutralize the effect of the Prison Realm and, consequently, free Gojo. Angel is incarnated in Hana Kurusu's body.

4. Why does Angel become such an important target?
Yuji, Megumi, and the others need to find Hana/Angel and gain her cooperation. Therefore, the search for her becomes one of the group's main missions.
5. Tengen reveals information about Kenjaku.

6. Tengen's situation is also explained.
The existence of Tengen is directly related to the barrier that protects and organizes the jujutsu system in Japan. Therefore, Tengen is a fundamental piece in understanding why Kenjaku's plan can affect such a huge number of people. And the great irony involving Gojo
This episode also makes clear one of the greatest "ironies" in history:
Gojo was so powerful that some tools that could have been useful in freeing him ended up being destroyed or lost precisely because of decisions made earlier.

8. Tsumiki's situation

The season makes it increasingly clear that Kenjaku is thinking on a much larger scale.
He's not simply trying to win a fight.
The Slaughter Game is part of a project involving:

5. Hiromi Higuruma
Higuruma is one of the most important new characters.
Before becoming a sorcerer, he was a lawyer. His experience with the legal system directly influences his technique.
His Domain Expansion is Mortal Sentence, in which the shikigami Judgeman appears.
What's most interesting is that the domain doesn't simply function as an arena for fighting: it transforms the confrontation into a trial.
In Yuji's case, Higuruma uses information related to the events in Shibuya to judge him. Why is Yuji so important in this judgment?
Because there is a difference between what Yuji did personally and what Sukuna did while controlling his body.
Yuji bears the emotional responsibility for what happened, but legally the situation is much more complicated.
This conflict is precisely one of the things that makes Higuruma so interesting: he begins to realize that the justice system he knew cannot easily deal with situations involving sorcerers and curses.

Yuji continues to carry the blame for the Shibuya disaster.
Yuta Okkotsu appears as someone tasked with executing Yuji, but the situation is more complicated than it seems.
Megumi tries to find a way to save Tsumiki.

2. The true objective of the Kill Game
The Game of Slaughter is not simply a tournament.
Kenjaku created a vast system of colonies where sorcerers and awakened individuals are pitted against each other. Participants earn points, and there are rules that govern how the game works.
One of the big questions raised during the season is: why does Kenjaku need people to keep participating?
Reggie himself realizes that simply killing everyone quickly wouldn't make sense if the goal was just to obtain cursed energy. This suggests that there is a much greater purpose behind the game.
3. The rules and points
The anime explains that:
Participants receive points for defeating other players;
The points can be used to propose new rules;
Certain conditions must be met before a rule can be added;
This transforms points into a kind of strategic asset, and not just a count of wins.
That's why Yuji and Megumi don't just need to go around defeating everyone: they need to find players who have points and convince them or confront them in order to change how the game works.

Taira no Masakado (d. 940) — a warrior who rebelled against the imperial government and, after his death, came to be feared as a powerful vengeful spirit.
Emperor Sutoku (1119–1164) — an emperor who was exiled after the Hōgen Rebellion and whose later tradition transformed him into a powerful vengeful spirit associated with the tengu.

After everything that happened in Shibuya, Yuji's personality becomes more mature and serious, but he doesn't completely lose who he was.
Determined: continues moving forward even when facing very difficult situations.
Courageous: puts their own safety second to protect others.
Empathetic: still cares deeply about others, including people they have just met.
More seriously: the trauma from Shibuya makes him less playful and more focused.
Responsible: begins to assume more responsibility for the consequences of Sukuna's actions.
Loyal: remains very close to Megumi and Nobara.
Persistent: when they decide to protect someone, they rarely give up.

Yuji in season 3. After the Shibuya Incident, Yuji is much more serious and carrying the weight of everything that happened.
He continues as a jujutsu sorcerer, despite once again being under threat of execution.
Yuta Okkotsu is tasked with executing Yuji, but ends up revealing that he was following the sorcerers' plan.
Yuji starts working with Yuta, Megumi, Maki, Hakari, and others to try and free Gojo and stop Kenjaku's plan.
He enters the Kill Game alongside his teammates.
Yuji faces increasingly stronger opponents and further develops his physical abilities and his use of cursed energy.

At this stage, Yuji is no longer the same boy he was at the beginning of the series.

How the battle unfolds
Gojo fights using Limitless, Six Eyes, Infinity, Blue, Red, and Purple.
Sukuna uses his cutting techniques, the Malevolent Sanctuary, and during the fight, also takes advantage of the Ten Shadows technique through Megumi's body.
The fight begins with both demonstrating an absurd level of power.
They enter into a series of clashes between Domain Expansions, primarily Limitless Void versus Malevolent Sanctuary.
Gojo manages to seriously injure Sukuna on several occasions and even appears to be dominating the fight.
Sukuna, however, uses Mahoraga as part of his strategy to find a way to overcome Gojo's Infinity.
🔥 The decisive moment
The big turning point comes when Sukuna manages to use Mahoraga's adaptation as a model to develop an attack form capable of bypassing the Infinite's defense.
With that, Sukuna performs a slash that goes through space itself, hitting Gojo.
Result: Sukuna wins the battle.
Despite the defeat, Gojo is shown as someone who managed to push Sukuna to his limit, making the confrontation one of the most intense fights in the series. Before dying, when he was hit by Sukuna's attack, Sukuna used two technical attacks that traversed infinity and cut off his arms at the elbows.
