He appears to have inspired the evil Super Sonic from Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog comics, which was temporarily incarnated from this successor with the red Chaos Emeralds. Evil Super Sonic has a similar personality and abilities to Super Sonic in the Sonic the Comics.
In his very first appearance, his quills remained pointing downward after his transformation. In later appearances, his quills were depicted pointing upward to match his appearance from the games.

Super Sonic possesses even greater speed and physical strength than Sonic normally possesses, as evidenced by his ability to extinguish an erupting volcano with a sonic cyclone and defeat opponents that Sonic had fought in vain with ease. He is so strong that he can even tear and damage solid Megathal, a Mobian metal long considered completely indestructible. The golden hedgehog is also essentially invulnerable, being immune to fire and most other forms of damage.

Super Sonic has numerous other powers derived from the emeralds. Among his most frequently used abilities are the ability to fly at incredible speeds and fire highly destructive energy beams from his eyes, which are always depicted as maniacal red spirals. He can also cast energy shields and charge his body to cause massive explosions. One such blast generated an electromagnetic pulse powerful enough to knock out electricity throughout Mobius. In his final appearance, while fighting Knuckles the Echidna, he used green mist to leech energy, draining the echidna of his strength.

Super Sonic is a character appearing in the comic book series Sonic the Comic, published by Fleetway Editions. He is the powered-up super form of Sonic the Hedgehog. A supersonic, psychotic demon-like entity, he manifests within Sonic's body under extreme stress or exposure to chaos energy. Sonic often had to fight this alter ego to keep it to himself, as Super Sonic's immense destructive powers, hyper-aggression, sadistic humor, and lack of restraint often threatened innocent civilians and even the blue hedgehog's own friends. Indeed, the golden hedgehog seems to relish the prospect of killing Sonic's friends: in issue #184, he deliberately restrains himself to prolong the pleasure of killing them. Super Sonic was created when Sonic absorbed a dose of evil energy that was absorbed by the Chaos Emeralds.
