His Doppo Ginkaku ability allows him to create objects from pages in his planner, as long as they don't exceed the page's size. It works by writing the object's name on the page, though it doesn't need to be activated until the user wants it to, allowing the names to be pre-written.

Kunikidaq values ​​human lives, as he strives to save all innocent people during dangerous events in Yokohama.
He adheres to this belief after witnessing incidents of young people being injured or killed. As a result, Kunikida never considers killing his opponents the only option, constantly seeking to rectify mistakes without bloodshed. Due to his dedicated compassion in trying to protect the city and its people, Ranpo believes he is the strongest and most virtuous person in the agency.

This calm facade begins to crumble when he is forced to "break the rules," resulting in a mental breakdown. Kunikida's mental state continues to deteriorate as he is pursued by hunting dogs, losing his self-confidence and "the light he always sees on the other side of the mirror." His ideals are challenged by Saigiku Jōno, who calls them "grand and soaring like a hot air balloon." He believes Kunikida's ideals will vanish if his comrades die, and he will feel "relieved."

Kunikida ponders this statement deeply, leading him to drastically reevaluate his ideals, declaring that "idealistic thinking alone won't save lives; it's time to be more realistic." At the end of the chapter, Kunikida makes a selfless decision, clinging to his desire to keep his comrades alive. He tells Tetchō Suehiro that he "won't let anyone ruin his plans" and that "with this life as fuel, he will."

As a member of the Armed Detective Agency, Kunikida is highly professional and diligent in his work because, for him, the agency's reputation takes precedence over everything else. He constantly feels the need to organize, gather, and schedule every detail, which can make him seem overly strict and severe during investigations.

He can also be seen as pragmatic to a fault, as he almost considered abandoning a kidnapped Atsushi because the boy's presence could complicate matters for the agency. Despite this, Kunikida is a loyal and reliable detective whom many in the agency trust due to his authoritative nature and responsible character.

He is almost never seen without his trademark notebook, which he believes is an "ideal" and a guide to life. He uses it for various reasons, such as data collection, planning, making the world a better place, and, most importantly, as a means to hone his skills as the incomparable poet.

While presenting a calm and composed front, Kunikida is also known for his outbursts of exasperation, which are primarily caused by his partner, Osamu Dazai, who constantly irritates him with his suicidal tendencies. However, Kunikida doesn't actually dislike Dazai. He particularly recognizes Dazai's skill and knowledge when they first work together, and continues to entrust much of the Agency's strategy to him. A similar faith extends to Ranpo Edogawa, as Kunikida actively participates in letting Ranpo believe that Super Deduction is a real ability, reverent towards Ranpo's detective prowess and his value to the Agency.

He is also unusually naive and prone to readily believing Dazai's lies, which he then notes down in his notebook for future reference.

Kunikida is a tall man, with sharp, greyish-green eyes, and wavy blonde hair that ends in a perfectly neat blonde ponytail. He always wears glasses.

Regarding his attire, Kunikida wears a long-sleeved shirt, adorned with a red ribbon tied around the neck. Over this is a buttoned grey vest, beige trousers, and dark shoes.
