It seems he also changed throughout the series. In episode 1, almost everything seemed boring to him, and he told Sketchbook that using hair to express himself was dull, but in episode 6, he started doing things to try to stand out, even going so far as to sing the "Creativity Song" in front of an audience. However, his behavior wasn't well received by his classmates.

Despite his pessimistic demeanor, Red Guy seems to genuinely care for those around him and can even be selfless at times. In the pilot episode of Super Deluxe's ​​unproduced television series, "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared," Red Guy is the only one concerned about the well-being of the missing mayor, Pigface, leaving Clayhill to search for him alone while the others worry about their own safety.

In the new series, his voice is less monotonous, and he expresses his emotions more frequently. He also sings with passion instead of maintaining a monotone, unlike in the web series. He occasionally shows that he cares less about others, especially Yellow Guy and Duck, but seems to care about his supposed royal family. This is particularly evident in the episode "Death," when he appears indifferent to Duck's death and funeral and doesn't consider him his best friend in the same way Duck does. However, he occasionally demonstrates that he does care about his friends, such as when he begins rebuilding Stain Edwards to make him a clone of Duck. He seems to have some kind of anger issue (or perhaps he's simply not fully aware of what's happening or is under stress), as he sounds quite desperate or outright shouts in most of the new episodes, if not frequently. Of all his friends, he is the most mature, sarcastic, and witty. He also seems to be the most sensible. Furthermore, he is the most pessimistic of the three main characters, as he shows little interest in the lessons and prefers to mind his own business. He may be older or more mature than the other two protagonists, since a photo of him wearing a graduation cap and holding a diploma appears in episode 6.

Red Guy is one of the main protagonists of the web series and television series Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, along with Duck and Yellow Guy.

He is portrayed and voiced by Joe Pelling. He belongs to a race of identical red-threaded creatures. Like the other main characters, his name is unknown, with "Red Boy" simply being a descriptive term used by the creators. He is known for his British accent and his deep, monotone voice. Furthermore, in the TV series episode "Jobs," the employees refer to him as "Mr. Peterson" (a reference to "Peterson" in Peterson's And Sons And Friends Bits & Parts Limited, the company he manages).

He often gets angry with the teachers and makes sarcastic comments. In episode 4, he gets impatient with Colin the Computer and tells him to be quiet, which causes Colin to get angry and yell at him. He also seems quite curious, judging by when he says "I wonder what will happen" upon seeing Yellow Guy run away in episode 3 and again just before unplugging him in episode 6.

In the TV series episode "Jobs," he temporarily wears a smart business suit along with other outfits appropriate for his respective occupations, and in "Death," he wears a striped apron when preparing the shepherd's pie and a black suit during Duck's funeral.

In Death, he is shown to have a lipless mouth with crooked and permanently exposed teeth. He apparently has no nose.

Red Guy may be a smoker, as seen by the ashtray and cigarettes placed near him in Episode 2. Although, he was never shown smoking on the show.
It is possible that he likes coffee, since a mug with coffee stains can be seen standing on his desk when he was in the "real world".
