He had a habit of staring at people in silence before answering anything. This made Wally incredibly nervous.

Kaien was born on Velkaris, a planet where sound was practically living energy. Their civilization could manipulate frequencies to fight, heal, and even move entire cities.

But an interplanetary war destroyed a large part of the planet.
Kaien escaped in a capsule while still a teenager and ended up being found by the Justice League near Earth's orbit.

At first they were suspicious of him because:

He was hiding a lot of things;

It had absurdly destructive sonic explosions;

and seemed to harbor hatred for all authority figures.

Even so, Batman realized that he had enough discipline not to become a threat.

So he was placed under the team's supervision.
